Duchess Catherine grants cancer-sufferer’s wish

Duchess Catherine has granted a wish to a child suffering from cancer.

The 29-year-old royal – who is currently on an official visit to Canada and the US with husband Prince William – was moved to tears after meeting six-year-old Diamond Marshall at Calgary Airport yesterday.

Diamond, who was diagnosed with an abdominal cyst in February and has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy, rushed across the tarmac to meet Kate and flung herself into her arms.

The youngster – currently awaiting surgery – was granted the opportunity to meet the royal couple through the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada charity, which aims to make the dreams of sick children come true.

Her mother had written to the charity, saying: “We are aware Diamond’s wish is enormous. We also are aware she may not have the chance to go to Disneyland where she wants to lunch with princesses.

“Should the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge just happen to swing by for a visit it would go a long way for helping her spirits as she is in awe of Princess Kate’s fairytale like story.”

Diamond – who was accompanied by her father Lyall and stepmother Danielle – said: “She was as fancy as she looks on the TV.”

Meanwhile, her stepmother Danielle described the experience as “a dream come true” for the little girl.

She added: “She was so lovely and so gracious. For a little girl who has dreamed of meeting a princess it was a dream come true.”
