London Fashion Week AW14 showcased their Neoteric collection part of the Digital Schedule.

The collection was presented alongside a feature film that was directed by Christopher Butler. The film was made with the concept in mind which explores the fine line between fiction and reality. This was served up with some bright blue cocktails much in keeping with the colour scheme of the current collection.

The collection is a solid colour scheme based on three colours, Midnight Blue, Moonstone Silver and Pitch Black

21 Moonstone Silver Dress

22 Marguerite dress Black Feather ChiffonMidnight Blue

HEMYCA have indeed kept up their reputation as a label to create sophisticated and demure pieces with great structure. The fabrics are nothing short of luxurious and sexiness; combining intricately feather covered fabrics to patent leather strap panelling, luxury wools and lace.

11 Manon cape Black Feather

04 Ottie gilet Black Patent

As you can see throughout the collection, the pieces are tailored, precise and elegant. Capes are a feature as well as beautiful chiffon gowns and below the knee dresses.

01 Manon Cape Petrol Blue

16 Alma coat Silver Jacquard

10 Grete top Black Patent - Anni skirt Black Patent Feather

There is an incredible sexiness and power that exudes from each of the pieces. Each of the outfits speak for themselves and it’s a wonderful and daring collection. I look forward to their next collection greatly.

Review of Made in the Shade

The setting is an old East London Boozer, the décor, menu and booze, new East London. The transformation of what used to be The Bacchus was noticeable from 100 feet down the road with the most striking artwork by talented artist Ali Hamish Campbell. En route to Made in the Shade I felt like I had walked down these streets many a time but the frontage was completely unrecognisable. What used to be a dreary old watering hole, has now been turned into an Electric Blue Odyssey. Made in the Shade is the brainchild of Jeremy Thompson Jewitt, Jim Wrigley and Peter Lewis based on their idea of the ‘absolute ultimate bar’ and it shows through their well thought out and varied cocktails, their exotic Caribbean influenced menu and the totally eclectic décor inside and out of the joint.

made-in-the-shade-bar-restaurant-hoxton-london

First impression is that they’ve done a great job with the place. The Kitchen has been opened up which I always love about eateries as you can always see the chefs working hard and that they’ve made great use of the space, enough space to chill out in an intimate crowd and some great sofas for larger groups to fill. Oh and lots of space at the bar, always a good thing in my book.

Jim Wrigley serves up Shady Maid Lemonade

We tried 3 cocktails on offer first up was the Shady Maid Lemonade. This was unlike any cocktail I had ever had. The Gin based cocktail was served up with Lime Juice, Citrus Syrup and Cucumber juice. It’s the ultimate refresher… dangerous too as I felt like I could sip on these all night after a session at the gym!

The Pink One

Next Up was The Pink One also a healthy and refreshing cocktail. Very easy to drink and pleasing on the eye, The Pink One is a vodka based pomegranate infusion mixed with apple juice, bergamot syrup and lime juice. What I loved about this cocktail is that it was served with pomegranate seeds on top of a slice of lime and served up with a mini spoon to scoop up all the pomegranate goodness. Again, the flavours were so well balanced and fresh I could have happily sipped on these all night.

Then we got to the more serious Ultimate F**king Cocktail aka the UFC a mix of Whisky, Rum, Ginseng liqueur and ahem Guinness Liqueur. There was nothing fruity about this one we were told by the PR team, this was one manly drink. So manly in fact is that it is served up with a an WWE Figurine and a bunch of props are offered to re-enact your fighting fantasies. The ice is hand-cut for all of the drinks according to what you have but what I loved especially about the UFC was that the ice is a big huge block in the centre of the tumbler so it doesn’t melt into all that lovely Whiskey booze.

Drink of Champions

If the idea was to create an experience for customers to have the perfect mix of everything, then I certainly felt transported out of the busyness of London when tasting what Chef Patrick Williams had cooked up. His menu is a mash up of English plates with Caribbean influences. Anyone who serves up rice pudding arancini is a culinary wizard in my book. Move over bangers and mash and make way for plantain fritters and oxtail spring rolls. If traditional bar snacks is what you’re after don’t bother but once you’ve tasted the tasty and tantalising soul food on offer here, I guarantee you won’t be lusting after chips and mayo. The curry mutton was delicious and tender and passion fruit parfait for afters was the perfect ending. It’s no wonder when you see Chef Patrick Williams’ impressive career that the food is so darn tasty and with the carefully thought out cocktail and food menu I certainly was Made in the Shade.

Spotlight on Portugal Fashion AW14

The Portugal Fashion show showcased work from two Portuguese designers at Fashion Scout, Daniela Barros and Joao Melo Costa. The shows were due to be held upstairs in The Vestibule but changed last minute due to the darker colours used in the show by both designers.

Geometry Androgyny

Geometry Androgyny

Daniela Barros had an androgynous theme which ran through all of the looks. The Models were styled in a grunge style with flat-forms and grunged out boots. Geometric lines featured on some of the styles and main colours used were grey, black and white with the only flash of colour coming from the Cobalt Blue featured in the piece above.

What we can’t ignore from the collection is that Barros’ collection is structured, clean and oversized which seems to be a key trend for AW14.

IMG_0522

Joao Melo Costa the show started with some stunning jewel encrusted sleeves on yet again some more oversized coats an androgyny seemed to be a running theme through both shows. Costa featured some more tailored, innovative suits with pinstripes running through them. The colours were similarly dark, simple and chic, offset with blue jewels used on the autumnal shades, whites and deep purples.

IMG_0526

There seemed to be a mixture of two-pieces which featured tailored skirts underneath oversized tees which added to the innovative and modern feel to Costa’s collection.

IMG_0551

The final feature was that Costa chose to play with different textures by incorporating leather tasselling into his oversized jackets

Spotlight on Basharatyan AW14

Backless Cardi

Sheer Cardigan

Veronica Basharatyan London College of Fashion Graduate unveils her Heidmork collection at Fashion Scout inspired by the Icelandic Nature Conservation.

Inspiration for the collection; Iceland with a beautiful haunting Emiliana Torrini Soundtrack to the show.

Main Colours; An eclectic palette of icy hues such as pastel blue, light greys and creams with flashes of bright red and forest green. The collection was also enhanced by the Peroxide bobs and metallic lip and nail palette.

Features; a recurring feature of many of the AW14 collection is attention to the back of the garment. Sheer back knits and sleek silhouettes were juxtaposed with oversized mohair detailing and heavy drapes.

Tailored Two-Piece

This collection was beautiful and really encapsulated the essence of Basharatyan’s influence. The Mohair caped jacket and Mac were particularly stunning and wearable. Tailored garments mixed with oversized cardigans gives an eclectic and varied depth.

Spotlight on Ong-Oaj Pairam AW14

Cobalt Frock

Cobalt Frock

Ong-Oaj Pairam was back at Fashion Scout this year to showcase his third collection. This included both Womenswear and Menswear and he took his inspirations from super-villians.

Ong-Oaj Pairam originally from Thailand studied Fashion Design at Brighton University

Main inspiration for the collection; Ursula from The Little Mermaid and The dark artistry of Charley Harper

Main Colours: Deep purples and Forest Greens interspersed with Neon Orange, Yellows and Cobalt Blue

Fabrics used: Ong prefers British Textiles and a heavy feature was PVC, Hand Embroidery and flowing Silk Gowns

This has been my favourite collection at Fashion Week so far, the collection was beautiful and the staple dark colours of grey and black with flashes of block colour and neons, cobalt blue appear to be a huge trend for AW14. Pairam’s use of neon was inspired by warning colours of exotic animals and the use of PVC and detailing on the more tailored pieces seem to be evocative of his inspiration Charley Harper. Some stunning flowing gowns mixed with tailored twin sets and the highlight of the show was the Neon Orange Mens Edge to Edge jacket.

LFW Spotlight on Timur Kim AW13

TIMUR KIM Aw13

Everyday wear with a touch of luxury

Personally, this has been my favourite collection so far due to the sheer fact is that I would happily wear every single piece that came out. The collection was incredibly feminine, mainly girly skirts and tea dresses and youthful.

One of the more popular looks and it seems to be a theme across other designer collections with Henry Holland also pairing swing skirt with a casual tee.

Colour was focused on a palette of blues and violet silks which juxtaposed the masculine footwear. Brogues in golds, burgundies and blacks.

LFW Spotlight on Lug Von Siga

Lug Von Siga AW13

Lug Von Siga is a label started by Turkish designer Gül Agįs

Agįs studied fashion first in Istanbul then moved on to Milan.

The line Lug Von Siga is based on clean cuts, neutral tones and feminine silhouettes. This was ever present in the AW13 collection.

Colours ranged from black and white Monochrome to Magenta and Gold.

Materials were decadent, faux furs, leather, heavy felt and textures such as foiled metallics were featured. The show started of elegantly with crisp lines and tailored pieces.

The trilby hats and leather gloves juxtaposed the feminine silhouettes and clean lines too achieve an almost androgynous feel and then the bold Magenta and golds came through which instantly vamped the collection giving it an eclectic feel. Themes were bold, bright and elegant.

LFW Survival tips

With only a matter of days before the infamous London Fashion Week, preparations must be made. Wardrobe dilemma is upon us and it is important that we are fully equipped with a few essentials to get us though this week of flamboyance, opulence and heaps of glamour. Having attended last year for the entire week, I found myself wishing I had put those certain essentials into my handbag so here are my top tips;

Scholl Party Feet;

If you must wear a heel, don’t let it shred your feet.

A great Notebook;

I recommend this Pantone notebook. Available in Selfridges

A Camera;

iPhone camera works a treat but if you’re looking for great quality images for an article or blog I recommend a good SLR like this one.

A brolly;

Lets face it, you WILL need it. I suggest this mini compact Fulton umbrella available in Selfridges.

Lastly… If you are lucky enough to have bagged that exclusive Press Pass, make sure you check out the various pamper lounges dotted around to refresh and revive yourself. Get your hair and make up done courtesy of Mac and Toni and Guy.
