About The Spice of Life pub…

A pub that has truly stood the test of time… surviving two world wars and retaining its traditional charm.  It is thought that there has been a tavern on the site of The Spice of Life since around 1750, although its present incarnation was built in 1898.  It was known then as The Cantons, and this name can still be seen in the building’s stonework as well as on the flags held by the rooftop gargoyles overlooking Cambridge Circus.  The tavern underwent a few name changes over the next 80 years, becoming The George and 13 Cantons, The Scots Hoose, and then finally The Spice of Life in 1986, when McMullen (the Hertford Brewers) became the owners. The Spice of Life is apparently a reference to a line in the William Cowper poem ‘Task’ …variety’s the very spice of life / that gave it all it’s flavour…”.  As well as being a listed building, The Spice of Life also has an esteemed musical heritage.  In the 1960’s and 1970’s The Scots Hoose (as it was called then) was a popular venue for folk musicians, and saw many great acts of the time, such as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Bert Jansch, The Strawbs and Sandy Denny performing here.  Then in the heyday of punk in the late 70’s The Spice of Life became a regular haunt for many punk musicians and followers, including The Sex Pistols.  In the late 90’s a thriving Jazz Club started up at The Spice, and has attracted many top acts, such as Jamie Cullum, Soweto Kinch, Darius Brubeck & Daryl Sherman.

McMullen & Sons Ltd, the family brewers of Hertfordshire established in 1827, remain the owners of this historical property to this day.

Mortlach Whisky Sponsors Private Viewing Of The Cycle Revolution Exhibition At The Design Museum

Tuesday 17th November 2015 saw Mortlach whisky take pride of place at the private viewing of the Design Museum’s newest exhibition, CYCLE REVOLUTION, an exhibition which celebrates the diversity of contemporary cycling in Britain, from everyday commuting to Olympic level competition, and looks at where design and innovation may take the riders of the future.

The exhibition runs from 18th November 2015 through to 30th June 2016 at London’s world leading Design Museum, celebrating the diversity of contemporary cycling in Britain from every day commuting to Olympic level competition, looking at where design and innovation may take the riders of the future.

The exhibition looks at cycling subcultures through four ‘tribes’ –

the High Performers who reach Olympic speeds…

the Thrill Seekers who take on all terrains…

the Urban Riders who pedal our cities mile by mile…

and the Cargo Bikers who work on two wheels.

The private viewing event was attended by over 300 guests, who were invited to try a choice of two Mortlach Rare Old serves.

Mortlach, the luxury single malt Scotch whisky is notorious for its powerful, complex and unique flavours that have earned it the title of ‘The Beast of Dufftown’.

About Mortlach Scotch Whisky…

This unique and astonishingly complicated distillation process, which commentators have attempted to explain as ‘2.81 distilled’, produces a whisky so flavoursome that whisky commentators have referred to it as the ‘Beast of Dufftown’ – a bold, rich and powerful spirit tamed for years in the finest oak casks.

Mortlach has been considered a secret weapon amongst whisky blenders, going into some of the world’s most treasured and beloved blended whiskies. With its thick, rich, robust character the whisky provides backbone, body and character in the blending world. It’s also highly prized by whisky lovers across the world – highly sought out but, in the past, hardly found. That was until in 2014 the distillery was given the limelight and recognition it not only deserves, but one that it truly has earned with the launch of 4 new luxury single malts.

About the Cycle Revolution Exhibition…

deal_1446205975

The last decade has seen a revolution in cycling, on a scale not witnessed in the UK since the Second World War. Cycle Revolution celebrates the diversity of contemporary cycling in Britain from every day commuting to Olympic level competition. It brings together bicycles, clothing, accessories, equipment, film and photography to explain where cycling is now and where it might take us in the future. The exhibition looks at cycling subcultures through four ‘tribes’ – the High Performers who reach Olympic speeds, the Thrill Seekers who take on all terrains, the Urban Riders who pedal our cities mile by mile, and the Cargo Bikers who work on two wheels. British bespoke bicycle frame building is showcased in the exhibition in a recreation of a bicycle making workshop featuring artisans from across the UK. Cycle Revolution closes with a glimpse into the future of cycling – how it is changing the infrastructure of the city, and how architects, designers and urban planners are responding to the needs of twenty-first century cyclists?

Fashion International London Fashion Week SS/16 Day Two – Omar Mansoor

ub1muFu-b-e9KgiT3MtYPnFUUF2BCaLlLNZd-aE_CtA

Omar Mansoor returned to the London Fashion Week Fashion International show (Amba Hotel Charing Cross), on day two (19 September 2015) with his 10th collection IMPERIAL ROMANCE featuring couture gowns inspired by the Russian Imperial Style.

With inspiration drawn from the peace post revolution, OMAR MANSOOR delivered an absolute gem of a collection for Spring/Summer 2016.

He took a subtle approach to his collection, via a palette of white and ivory, depicting three themes – the pre-revolution Tsarist autocracy, featuring Faberge imperial egg-inspired motifs, the rise of the revolution – communicated with military insignia and caps, and the end of revolution peace, indicated by the white and gold silk flower embellishment.

-J19nHCjkY27xdxWHuYnyp-W3t06SXVj7lGtgsL87f8 nEamvyfArwQ4cNQdKzp9SrFYptQpYWxahcVkdIDMvok

OMAR MANSOOR understands the kind of women he’s designing for.

His collection clung to the purity of form, ultimately focusing on basics with exquisitely fitted military jackets breaking up the sobriety.

r0A2UHCJJD14AE34dX11RiND-c4YR671CvRyKpnLAFU7XFt2_b4JJ07jwseIP0p4noXuMnVXeF2klZ4Om6-P9M8nRmgxT3LPRhaMk4JJR6n58ESgdT7uVFZjEBV_VHfXAAFblZC0_uD6wyOL_Me1lL9ZFwi-gyxsfycInrMIV8fA

OMAR MANSOOR worked the minimalist mood that’s making itself felt now; pared down and simple, but not to the point of severity, injecting his collection with just enough of a hip, young edge.

It showed in the mix of slight-shouldered jackets edged with tapework, worn over a lace dress or a silhouette-inspired evening gown; and in the judicious use of Faberge egg-inspired ornamentation.

Sharp-lapels, sandwiched white Lycra-blended lace and waist-defining jumpsuits showed a command of elegance gleaned from his lifelong obsession with couture classics.

OMAR MANSOOR has taken a look at the streets of modern Moscow and come up with a creative fusion of garments that address the twenty-first century in an imaginatively practical way.

aLgKUd3SfYWZ4O9PEXKe7NuHrXkV-KvD6cIErzN1bjkhgkY1CvcA1vk5uDP0DwxXPDJhzXZbMbHYq7GlVRPbvIIHIzVLdpfMPx5cIOAlJ-ouMdS4Xx_J6KxKx7q-n8rOAIzcb54Y8YRsAt0doUhSA8fsgvmWcQEWBOlK0TaD4RkA

Effortlessly constructed, various pieces seemed as though they had been blown by some zephyr onto the body, with savvy tailoring combined with turn-of-the-century militaria and revolutionary caps.

Kgfiqk_FY4tIINDlLxWsYO1H9A43gEJyTJH0GtGhrH0MxVqMFW8FzSUCOHRp1v5thGDj-eAnX7QSPgjfkRuXNo

OMAR MANSOOR has a natural ability to marry sexy with just the right touch of sweet, with well-cut pantsuits, decorative paillette cocktail dresses trussed up with military details, appliques and flattering three-quarter sleeves.

O1FjGgUJQUVZvO8ktoIQNE9CJCLH0rDYC3ucTNg17BcOFhTTaEaIGH0XR505RhXhWs-BK3tDvoS_gygyud2A6oojCtBAd0v1U5L79GOloKpoXbdNSWv2up8H-xBQR2ZXcqQyK-8hP_mvCzZ1o1gpt_phwP7aJhiqR7-tMcpIuiLs

The collection featured exceptionally beautiful white lace dresses, virginal without being revoltingly cute and pantsuits with wide flares draping just below the knee, sliced and folded to reveal more than they hid.

QWeqaviyGBbi6KmTXqbeDzAPjesi166spDA7MpSjHig

OMAR MANSOOR belongs to a superelite of fashion frontrunners who are leaving most other collections in the distance, a designer who can show fashion a good time, and you can’t help applauding that…

Omar Mansoor talks about his collection…

11174936_10153193744003350_1597485459503664069_n

“In Russian history, the fashion revolutions always coincided with the greatest political changes; from Peter the Great to the Revolution of 1917 to Gorbachev’s Perestroika.  The Revolution of 1917 made the Russian fashion adjust to the new Communist norms, which condemned everything ‘bourgeois’ and extraordinary.  With the turn of the 20th century, the traditional Muscovy Rus style of heavy fabrics, elaborate gold and precious stone embroideries and female half-moon-shaped headwear kokoshniks made its comeback and won over Europe with Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.  I engage these elements in my collection in a way that it attracts masses appeal.  The primary colour is off-white, depicting post-revolution peace.  The diffusion line includes both knee and full-length dresses and jumpsuits constructed using a range of fabrics from silk jersey, crepes to sheer nets, blended with Lycra, using insignias from pre-revolution social fabrics.”

Omar Mansoor is a London-based fashion designer, best known for his couture occasion wear. He dresses British actresses and International royalty and European aristocracy; Omar Mansoor is widely credited with re-introducing the fusion clothing into modern fashion. After attending London College of Fashion one of the prestigious Schools in UK, Omar was the first Pakistani to showcase at London Fashion Week in 2008, OM made its appearance at Royal Ascot, Bahrain Fashion Week and Top Model UK. Susanna Reid wore Omar Mansoor at the 2010 Academy Awards. The brand has been worn by a number of actresses on the red carpet including Miss United Kingdom Amy Guy.

On the 18th of September 2015, ISATU HARRISON brought her Spring/Summer 2016 IZELIA collection to the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, 4-18 Harrington Gardens, South Kensington, London, SW7 4LH.

With her exuberantly eclectic style, ISATU HARRISON put on a typically vibrant performance, throwing a storm of colour onto her spring/summer 2016 couture catwalk.

Rampaging through any shade she could find, she produced a highly luxurious and supremely feminine collection, a cacophony of brilliantly rich splashes and prints that fulfilled every expectation of her, producing a supremely feminine collection using fabrics that suggested she had rummaged through the most luxurious of haberdashery boxes that you could say, had a touch of the Christian Lacroix about it.

This was the IZELIA brand to the core, but she refused to let the chaos take over.

12047077_10156079907160015_9036961958216795546_n 12046658_10156079905955015_5382639536686042188_n 12046635_10156079906700015_751533149876231111_n 12038393_10156079907395015_6732743883133633673_n

The designer’s breathtaking collection featured a delicious palette that ran from lemon and lime sorbet to pomegranate and featured piles of gold, African-inspired prints splashed over a selection of dresses and jumpsuits that were tailored to the point of perfection, as if the designer had forfeited any need to cut the fabric.

The Sierra Leonean designer, whose strength is her ability to celebrate the feminine capacity to be seriously spoilt, gave her models big seventies-style curly hair and layered on the eyeshadow and lipstick to give them a air of high maintenance narcissism.

Models were wrapped in an explosion of colour and luxurious fabrics with exuberant head-wraps that demonstrated Isatu’s desire to discover what women really want.

Isatu produced a spring/summer wardrobe that was rich in detail, finish, and texture, with a slim, somewhat sixties silhouette, counterpointed with the occasional controlled bursts of volume. There were exemplary denims slashed with vibrant citrus yellow, sleek and streamlined, with cinched jackets and skirts that finished just above the knee.

The IZELIA sophomore-inspired collection, featured pants, jackets, dramatic capes and long-line waiscoats that wrapped around the body like an embrace.

As for the dresses, they were expertly executed, achieving soft, supple, drapey effects, as well as more structured ones, making a famously clingy fabric practical and wearable.

Isatu balances the qualities that women expect from cutting-edge urban fashion—sportiness and sex appeal, in equal measure—with the contemplative, cerebral nature of her own approach, revealing her fondness for the folkloric aspect of her native country.

Cognac-coloured prints translating into a quietly glamorous collection of embellished feminine pieces, juxtaposed with sturdy, more masculine ones, the IZELIA brand is morphing into the go-to brand for hip young women looking for must-have pieces.

This was an accomplished collection from an inspired designer who is transmitting a jolt of excitement about contemporary dressing, with a perennially youthful eye, giving her best collections a tomboyish naturalness that manages to capture the essence of camera-ready fashion…

Buccellati Celebrates Launch Of ‘Opera’ Collection At Spencer House In London

On Wednesday October 21st, Buccellati celebrated the launch of the new Opera Collection in the halls of

Spencer House in London.

Friends from around the world, Lucy Connor, Greg Rusedski, Kim Hersov, Ian Wace, Saffron Aldridge and Rocco Forte among the others,  gathered with Guest of Honour and star of the advertising campaign, Elisa Sednaoui, with cocktails and a truffle bar, managed by the Italian chef Mariuccia Ferrero, to toast the refreshingly youthful designs the Opera Collection enriches the brand with.

Inspired by the house’s new logo, the collections central motif awakens Italian Renaissance culture: the ideal of absolute symmetry as expressed by the flower.

Characterized by sinuous fine lines and harmonious forms, Opera is comprised of a wide range of pieces; bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings in yellow, white and rose gold, some with pave diamonds.

The collection also encompasses high jewelry pieces featuring cuffs, one-of-a-kind cocktail earrings and rings adorned with sapphires and emeralds.

Amid the vitrines of jewelry, Buccellati displayed official and behind-the-scenes images of its new advertising campaign, starring the beautiful Elisa Sednaoui photographed by Peter Lindbergh.

Milan, the city where the brand was founded in 1919, served as the background for the shots.

About Buccellati…

Buccellati is one of the world’s most renowned high jewelry houses, celebrated for its craftsmanship, design, and one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Buccellati prides itself in its use of rare stones with a strong focus on colour; a characteristic uncommon to many fine jewelry makers. Today, Buccellati jewels are admired worldwide not only for their design and genuine craftsmanship, but also for the house’s signature engraving techniques, which date back to the ancient traditions of the goldsmith’s ateliers of the Italian Renaissance.
