Eva Green said: “For me, this project was about much more than simply producing a Calendar. It was about telling a series of stories in an imaginative, creative and beautiful way – and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved. This year, those stories are closer to the heart of Campari than ever before and I personally feel very honoured to have been part of that. The 2015 Calendar is a real testament to Campari as a brand and seeing all of the stories together in one collection just proves that no matter how old these recipes may get, there will always be a firm place for Campari within our contemporary world.”

The Warwick Rowers Club has trained solidly for six months….in order to strip off and bare it all for their beautifully produced 2015 calendar (available now www.warwickrowers.org)

  • The famously clothes-resistant university athletes have become somewhat of a cult phenomenon after record breaking sales last year following coverage on Good Morning America and E! Entertainment News – raising more in the first 24 hours than in the previous four years and even causing their website to crash!
  • Raising nearly £50,000 for their university sport and charity, the team won Cause Related Calendar of the Year and People’s Choice Award at the 2014 National Calendar Awards and was a favourite amongst high-profile supporters including Stephen Fry, Sir Ian McKellan, Kylie Minogue, Gok Wan and Boy George.
  • Due to last year’s success the team hope to raise more than just a smile and are donating over half its profits to university sport and also Sport Allies – a charity initiative set up by the boys to challenge homophobia in sport.
  • Members of the rowing club have been working with other students, including representatives of Warwick Pride, the university’s LGBT organisation for students, professionals from Ernst & Young, and leading figures in the voluntary sector to roll Sport Allies out nationally, and to begin the process of creating an independent registered charity.

Debrett’s Reveal The Questions They’re Most Frequently Asked

debrett's guide to good mannersDebrett’s have revealed the questions they are most frequently asked by the public.  The list, which covers everything from social kissing to mobile phone use, provides a revealing insight into the social anxiety people experience in behaviour for everyday situations. We may no longer live in the structured world of ‘Downtown Abbey’, but it’s clear that many of us still yearn for guidance on good manners.

Debrett’s was founded in London in 1769, and now has an international presence.  In the last 12 months they received more than 10,000 enquiries from across the globe.  The enquiries on social behaviour inform part of the recently released Debrett’s Handbook, a 480-page compendium on good manners.

Below Debrett’s reveal the questions they have been most frequently asked in the last 12 months, and provide their responses.

1 – MOBILE PHONE USE

Debrett’s receive more enquiries about mobile use than any other device. According to Debrett’s, it is always rude to pay more attention to a phone than a person in the flesh, and they should always be put away when transacting other business – for example, when you’re paying for something in a shop.  They should be switched off in theatres, cinemas (including during the trailers!), art galleries, or any space where silence is desired.

2 – SMOKING E-CIGARETTES AT WORK

As electronic cigarettes become more popular, so to do the number of enquiries that Debrett’s receive on the device.  The most pressing question is whether they are acceptable in the workplace. According to Debrett’s they should never be used in a work environment. Vaping shows that you’re not focused on your work and may also be a distraction to your colleagues.

3 – SOCIAL GREETING: KISSING

Many people are clearly unclear on the subject of social kissing.  According to Debrett’s, kissing is not appropriate in many professional situations. On the whole it should only be used among friends, but not on first meeting. An air kiss, without contact, may seem rude or impersonal, so very slight contact is best but no sound effects are needed.

4 – EATING AND APPLYING MAKE-UP ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Following the recent controversy surrounding public-shaming websites, Debrett’s has been inundated with enquiries as to whether it’s acceptable to eat or apply make-up on public transport.  According to Debrett’s you should avoid both.  It’s inconsiderate to eat smelly food in a confined environment, and applying make-up on public transport can jeopardise that all-important first impression and make you appear disorganised.

5 – RECLINING YOUR SEAT ON AEROPLANES

This is a common bugbear.  According to Debrett’s, it’s selfish to recline your seat back during short daytime flights. When travelling by plane always stay within your own designated space and don’t hog the armrest. Also avoid kicking the back of the seat in front of you or using it as an aid to standing-up.

6 – GIVING UP YOUR SEAT ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

In a recent university experiment only 20% of London tube passengers offered to give up their seat to a visibly pregnant woman.  According to Debrett’s, passengers should always offer to give up their seat to any individual that is pregnant, elderly, or clearly in need. It is important to remember, however, that it is just as rude to aggressively decline the offer of a seat as it is to not offer a seat.

7 – BLIND COPYING (bcc)

Debrett’s receive a high level of enquiries on best business practice.  The most commonly asked question is whether it is ever right to blind copy (bcc) someone into an email. According to Debrett’s, blind copying should be used discerningly as it is deceptive to the primary recipient. Instead, the email should be forwarded on to the third party, with a short note explaining any confidentiality, after its distribution.

If blind copying is essential – i.e. for a confidential document where all recipients must remain anonymous – then the sender should address the email to themselves, and everyone else as ‘bcc’ recipients.

8  – EATING BEFORE EVERYONE IS SERVED

The final question is one that we’ve all asked ourselves: is it rude to start eating at the table before everyone else has been served?  According to Debrett’s the simple answer is yes, unless the host or hostess gives their permission for diners to start

Out now, Debrett’s Handbook is the most comprehensive book Debrett’s has ever published aside from its famed registers, People of Today and Peerage & Baronetage, and combines Debrett’s Correct Form with a guide to modern manners for the first time. Priced at £35, and available from the Debrett’s online shop Debrett’s Handbook will make for a great Christmas present – and it’s sure to settle a number of age-old family debates on manners and appropriate behaviour! The Debrett’s Handbook is out now.  For more information visit www.debretts.com

Peter Pilotto Spring-Summer 2015

A firm Frost favourite, we fell head over hells in love with Peter Pilotto’s SS15 collection. We want EVERYTHING.

Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos explore a transcendent wash of light and colour in their SS15 collection as craft is elevated beyond print, through a myriad of treatments. Cyber florals join a constellation of swirling geometry as coils and fans of guipure lace meet technical macrame and custom dandelion jacquards with sparkling tinsel.

Applied to iridescent organza, silk leaves and windowpane checks float over the skin, whilst grids of naive florals blossom on black denim. The collection’s spectral palette pulses energetically throughout.

The silhouette moves between a trim bodice, to ultra slim trousers to planed shifts, some with airy volumes explored as a handkerchief hem and the neat folds of an A-line skirt.

Giant paisley and abstract rosettes in Perspex are hinged and fractured amongst a scatter of Swarovski crystal. Studies of classical draping, paired with featherweight knits, melt into asymmetry, finished with a cascade of sequins. Interlocking chain motifs, realised in bright embroideries, vibrate throughout the collection.

Ong-Oaj Pairam SS15 Collection | London Fashion Week

We have been having a ball at London Fashion Week. A highlight was Ong-Oaj Pairam’s show. Ong-Oaj Pairam’s third season showcasing during Fashion Week was another triumph. After being named as ‘one to watch’ by the Times last week, the SS15 collection did not disappoint. By combining pastels, prints and metallics, Ong-Oaj Pairam’s latest collection is inspired by the designers fragmented memories of growing up alongside his families noodle factory in Nakhon Ratichasima, Thailand. We loved it.

Eva Green Exudes Timeless Beauty In The 2015 Campari Calendar

Sin City super star Eva Green announced as leading lady in Campari Calendar alongside Julia Fullerton-Batten, the first ever female photographer to lead the project

Campari has officially unveiled the Hollywood actress Eva Green as the star of the 2015 Campari Calendar. The stunning French born actress will take the lead role in this year’s iconic Calendar, entitled ‘Mythology Mixology’, which is dedicated to celebrating Campari’s unique and colourful history and the intrinsic stories linked to twelve of its best-loved classic cocktails.

Eva Green began her career on stage in 2001 by starring in Turcaret directed by Gerard Deshartes and Jalousie en trios faxdirected by Didier Long. Her screen debut was in 2002 when she was cast as the female lead in Bernardo Bertolucci’s critically-acclaimed, The Dreamers. In 2006, Eva starred opposite Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, the 21st film in the James Bond franchise. Eva played “Vesper Lynd”, a mysterious blend of vulnerability and strength and the only woman that James Bond ever truly loved. The film was nominated for 9 BAFTA’s in February 2007 with Eva winning The BAFTA Rising Star Award, voted for by the public.

Eva has most recently been seen in the Showtime TV Series Penny Dreadful which made its debut in May and sees her play lead role of Vanessa Ives alongside Timothy Dalton and Josh Hartnett. Eva has also recently been seen in the lead role of ‘Artemesia’ in 300: Rose of an Empire and in August will be seen starring in the Sin City prequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill for. Eva follows in the footsteps of previous Campari Calendar heroines, including stylish and passionate actresses, Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes, Jessica Alba, Milla Jovovich, Penelope Cruz and Uma Thurman.

Eva Green said: “To work with an iconic worldwide brand such as Campari is an honour and a privilege. There is something very special about this year’s theme as it strikes a compelling and almost magical balance between the classic and the contemporary. At the root of each image is this rich sense of history behind each of Campari’s best loved cocktails but they are presented in a way that is ultra modern, exuding imagination and style. It’s a thing of incredible beauty and clearly shows that whilst some of these recipes are over 100 years old, they are still relevant to and adored in today’s world. It is that sense of timelessness that has been captured so wonderfully in this year’s Calendar, thanks to the creative input from our photographer Julia Fullerton-Batten and all the talented people who worked on the set.”

Shooting the 16th edition of the globally renowned Campari Calendar is Julia Fullerton-Batten, a worldwide acclaimed and exhibited fine art photographer and the first ever woman to get behind the lens on the Calendar project. Julia founded her success in 2005 with ‘Teenage Stories’, an evocative narrative that depicts the transition of a teenage girl to womanhood. Since then, she has exhibited work all over the world. Her unusual locations, highly creative settings, street case models and cinematic lighting are hallmarks of her very distinctive style of photography, all of which are techniques evident in this year’s Campari Calendar.

Julia Fullerton-Batten said: “Campari has always had an inherent ability to recreate itself and keep the brand image fresh, inspiring and imaginative. This is a goal I constantly strive towards in my own work too, so you could say it was a partnership made in heaven from the very beginning. This year’s theme was an interesting challenge, as there was an important job to do in terms of taking historical anecdotes and invigorating them with a modern edge. I’m confident we managed to strike that delicate balance with this year’s imagery and it certainly helped working with someone as beautiful and as talented as Eva Green, who was just as passionate about getting the shots right as we were.”
