Bio:
Ape Men (APE|MEN) are an edgy indietronica trio from the post Iron Curtain fringes of the European Union formed in 2013. The band paint an urban soundscape with gritty scuzz guitars and moody lyrics over saturated synthesizers and thumping electo beats.

The band’s debut EP “ZERO” was released independently on Feb 19th, 2015. The EP is accompanied by a single and music video release for “CASH”. The video was directed by Ruscen Vidinliev.

 

 

Wonderound Shoreditch Store Launch Social Diary

We had fun at the launch of South Korean label Wonderound in Calvert street. The clothes and accessories were beautiful and the Korean street food from restaurant On The Bab was amazing. We soaked in the atmosphere as we drank rosé in the sun.

 

The brands key aesthetics are clean cuts, minimal and simple design, using neutral hues and pastel tones – easy to wear yet in no way ordinary. Wonderound bridges the gap between London’s thriving fashion scene and South Korea’s innovative, energy textile expertise.

 

Up and coming label Wonderound will set pitch in Calvert Street for two months only, offering customers a chance to discover the brand in a unique settings. Showcasing the brand’s clothing and accessories, the shop will also act as a platform for collaborations with South Korean artists and designers.

 

The current collection encompasses the brands key aesthetics of clean cuts, minimal and simple design, using neutral hues and pastel tones – easy to wear yet in no way ordinary. This season’s hero pieces include the Neoprene Cocoon Jumper featuring a drop shoulder cut, half-length sleeves and a ribbed finish and a boxy stripy dress with rolled up 3Ž4 sleeves. Outerwear comprises a regular fit cream beige half trench with shoulder button epaulettes detail and a monochrome baseball bomber.

 

Wonderound bridges the gap between London’s thriving fashion scene and South Korea’s innovative, energy textile expertise. And as London becomes further more captivated with Koran culture, Wonderound intends on bringing another aspect from the country to add to the prominent Korean food and music scene in the capital.

Heaven BEE VENOM face mask reviewWhen I am tired, dehydrated or run down I get these horrible little lines on my forehead. If I drink some water and get some sleep they disappear but I am getting more worried about them becoming permanent. It’s easy to think aging is okay when you are in your early-twenties or teens (Hello 23-year-old Emma Watson) but I am in my late-twenties now and aging is less fun when it is actually happening to you. I have always been told I look younger than my age and I want to keep it that way.

I would never have cosmetic surgery and I promised my other half that I would never have botox (which may turn out to be a regret), so reviewing nature’s alternative to Botulinum Toxin, Deborah Mitchell’s Heaven Bee Venom Mask, was definitely quite exciting. I also met Deborah and had a nice chat with her, she has great skin and is very inspirational.

I reviewed this in two ways: one: I used it as a proper face mask. On for 20 minutes and then rinse off. Two: I put it on top of my moisturiser and leave it on.

After using it as a proper face mask my skin looks great and feels smooth. I also see a difference when putting it on top of my moisturiser. It doesn’t numb the area you put it on or feel weird, it is just like a light moisturiser and smells lovely too.

I have only been using this for a few weeks and will do an update in another few weeks. So far I am impressed. It smooths out the skin and leaves it radiant. It smells great too. So far, I am a fan.

Emotional Support through breast cancerAlthough I have been lucky to never have cancer myself, I have seen firsthand how devastating it can be. Those who get diagnosed can also feel isolated and need emotional support. Knowing about the experience of others definitely helps and that is where Emotional Support Through Breast Cancer shines; it is written not only by a psychologist, but one who is a breast cancer survivor. It is also concise and easy-to-read.

This is a compassionate guide and has many personal testimonies from women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, it shares practical ideas to help support sufferers at all stages, be it at diagnosis, during treatment or during life after the initial treatments are over.

The book has exercises to develop an acceptance of thoughts and feelings, whilst the individual accounts validate the multitude of emotions felt by sufferers. Emotional Support Through Breast Cancer has had glowing reviews and it is easy to see why; it has the tone of a good friend and the wisdom of a health care professional. Anything to get through the trauma of breast cancer is a must, and this book impressed me on many levels: An essential.

Cata9tales could only exist right now, in this moment, at this pinnacle of pop culture; where the lines blur, the mold breaks, and the rules crumble into dust.  Keeping one foot in hip-hop while dancing all over the musical map, Cata9tales have crafted a truly fresh sound. The band have developed an intensely loyal following, having toured extensively throughout the Southeast and ranking #1 on Reverbnation regionally.

Cata9tales is the brainchild of frontman Berkley Priest, an enigmatic performer with a strong style and flow that defies categorization. Less a rapper than a rocker who rhymes, Priest draws influence from David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and David Lee Roth. A veteran of the rock and psychedelic scenes, Cata9tales is the first time that Priest has ventured into hip-hop territory. Lyrically, Priest employs colorful turns of phrase and vocal inflections that make him entirely unique within a saturated scene. His performances border on the possessed, tapping into an energy that only a performer that has spent years in the rock trenches can.

Kreator (Kenny Perkins) is a musical journeyman who can play nearly any instrument and has an ear for composition and song structure that makes him an anomaly in the hip hop world. Refusing to settle or take short cuts, it is Kreator’s perfectionism and ear for turning the absurd into musical gold that gives Cata9tales its soul and punch.

Something happens when these two musicians, uniquely talented in their own right, get together to form Cata9tales. The live band finds the duo working with  drummer Ben Pinkston and guitarist Jeremy Luedtke, as well as a rotating cast of characters that guarantees that no two shows will ever be the same.  Priest leads the charge with his whirling dervish performances, including additional percussion and samples. Kreator (who formerly DJ’ed the proceedings) now plays bass live while triggering samples with his feet and stepping over to scratch on the turntables.

Their first release, the old-school influenced, cathartic “Kick the Bad Love” announced their arrival. Their follow-up EP “A Chameleon’s Dream,” released just 6 months later, shows a band that was unwilling to be pigeonholed, as the flows, song structure and sonic experimentalism reached new levels. Since then the band has signed to Monarchy Records and are hard at work in the studio recording what will be their “official” debut, “Hello Maybe Everything.”

The beats and lyrics weave in and out, taking sharp left turns, coloring madly outside of the lines. From the mid-Atlantic something wicked ? and wonderful ? this way comes.

Bio: Defying typecasts, Mike Moss is an anomaly in the modern world of manufactured pop. Yet, with his diverse musical roots – from hanging out with his Uncle who toured with Ivor Novello, to the mosh pits of Manchester?s rock clubs, he is also emblematic of a new wave of self-made artists, combining innate musical talent with production and marketing savvy.

Similarly, Morning Call is emancipated from its humble country roots with hypnotic military drums, chiming guitars and that soul-searching voice.

Neither is Moss afraid of shifting down a gear, and the album is punctuated with beautifully reflective moments, culminating in Only Lies. a simple piano ballad replete with real world story telling and a swelling vocal finale.

The artist might not be actually ‘new’, but someone who we think may be about to breakthrough or go onto another level of fame. They do say it takes ten years to become an overnight success….

Highlights/Accolades: Power Plant Beach was selected as one of Mother Jones Readers’ favorite albums of 2011. Emilia Cataldo was a finalist in the We R Indie singer songwriter contest in 2011. Nehedar provided most of the soundtrack to an upcoming independent film. (working title: Strike Anywhere Matches).

Nehedar is the project of New York-based singer-songwriter Emilia Cataldo.

The daughter of two New York musicians who fled urban life for the country, Cataldo was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, where her family lived in a barn on the outskirts of town. Music always permeated their home – her mother a hippie piano teacher from a Jewish home & her father a Puerto Rican jazz saxophonist.

The Cataldo family which grew to six children, moved from Massachusetts, to Miami FL, & eventually to the religiously-infused town of Zion, Illinois, on the outskirts of Chicago where Cataldo briefly attended high school.

Cataldo quickly grew disenchanted with her small town surroundings. As soon as she was old enough, she left high school to travel the country, and later the world, on a journey that would eventually lead her to Israel, where she would study the Jewish faith in Seminary, and take on the Hebrew name Nehedar, which means ‘wonderful.’

In 2000, Cataldo settled in New York City, where she began writing & performing her own music in 2001 following a difficult period involving the loss of her mother to an aggressive brain tumor. She adopted ‘Nehedar’ as her stage-name & that of her band. Eventually, Cataldo would return to school to complete her B.A. in music at Stern College in Manhattan.

Nehedar has self-released five albums – Pick Your Battles in 2007, the critically-acclaimed Dreamlike in 2008, Pterodactyl Baby in 2009, Power Plant Beach in 2010 and just released her latest album High Tide on March 15, 2012. For the duration of her recording Nehedar has worked closely with Craig Levy of Little Pioneer Cider House in Brooklyn New York, although she has enjoyed experimenting with other producers. Nehedar’s backing band has included a revolving cast of friends and thereby changed shape over the years. Whenever possible Nehedar includes Luis Cataldo (her saxaphone playing father) in the mix.

While spanning indie-rock, folk, jazz and pop genres, the music of Nehedar has continued to deliver her blend of deeply personal lyrics, beautiful vocal harmonies & a variety of instrumentation. Momentary departures from strict chord progressions set her music apart, surely a result of her childhood spent listening to jazz. As a writer and performer she has enjoyed comparisons to Tracy Bonham, Bebel Gilberto and Ingrid Michaelson.
