What To Wear In The Fashion Capitals. Elnaz Niknani Reveals All

TRAVEL TO THE FASHION CAPITALS IN STYLE

Momondo’s Elnaz picks out what’s hot to wear, where…

London designer and Momondo Local Fighter ELNAZ NIKNANI, has been busy promoting her fashion line, at all four recent major fashion weeks – New York, London, Milan, and Paris, earlier this month.

Elnaz here unveils the key fashion trends for each city this season, and essential items to pack when visiting, to be in vogue…

What to wimage010newyorkear in New York

The current New York style is very simple, with clean lines – very smart casual. If you want to be bang-on-trend in the Big Apple this season, make sure you pack an oversized coat, and see-through bag,” says Niknani.

                                     What to wear in Milan

image011milan“This season, Milan’s fashion is all about fabric, pattern and texture. Make sure you pack printed pieces, and don’t be afraid to combine several different fabrics, in one outfit,” says Niknani.

                                       What to wear in London

image012london“London has always been known for its cutting edge fashion. One trend I noticed this London Fashion Week, was a lot of DIY fashion. You don’t see this in New York, Milan or Paris. In London, far more people are improvising, and making up their own rules.

“So my travel/fashion tip for those visiting London, is to be to be a little creative – perhaps you might be wearing something you’ve designed or printed yourself, or it could be something as individual as using your favourite scarf, as a belt or turban,” says Niknani.

What to wear in Paris

“Paris is the land of couture fashion, so I wasn’t surprised that everyone was wearing a lot of designer labels. However, one trend that really stood out this year was fur. My tip for fashionistas would be to pack one fur item (it doesn’t have to be real), if you are booking a city break to Paris this season,” says Niknani.

And for everywhere else…

“If you want to be in style and don’t want to spend too much money, buy a clutch bag – these are on-trend everywhere this season,” says Niknani.

Momondo recently ran a competition to win a travel-inspired clutch bag, designed by Elnaz Niknani. Watch out for more competitions to win items from her new collection, on the momondo blog. http://blog.momondo.co.uk/

Sundance London and Talenthouse Launch Worldwide Film Competition

NOKIA MUSIC, SUNDANCE LONDON, AND TALENTHOUSE LAUNCH WORLDWIDE FILM COMPETITION

ACCLAIMED FILM SERIES “NEW AMERICAN NOISE” TO SCREEN AT THE SUNDANCE LONDON FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL AT THE O2 ON FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 2013

Nokia Music announced it would team up with Sundance London and Talenthouse on the launch of a worldwide competition for aspiring filmmakers and directors challenging them to investigate the music scenes in cities around the globe.

“Inspired by our series of short films, New American Noise, we wanted to launch a competition where we could all get a glimpse into the world’s various music scenes,” said Jyrki Rosenberg, VP of Entertainment at Nokia.  “Mobile phone cameras and video cameras are so popular so for the contest we decided to have the finalists shoot their films using our Nokia Lumia 920.  We know there are a lot of creative people out there, and we can’t wait to see their finished films.”

To take part, filmmakers must upload a short video trailer (15 sec – 60 sec) including a 150 word supporting written description visualizing the ‘underground music scene’ in their chosen city.   Rosenberg added: “We are looking for creative ideas that push the boundaries of the camera and the possibilities of mobile filmmaking.”

Two finalists will each receive a $5,000 production budget and two #Lumia920’s on which they must create their final short film. What’s more, both of them will receive an-all-expenses paid trip to Sundance London (2013) in April where their final films are guaranteed a special screening at the festival, along with a mentoring session with one of the ‘judges’. One lucky grand prizewinner will walk away with $5,000 and a Nokia Lumia 920.  Complete details can be found HERE.

Additionally Nokia Music announced the European premiere of its heralded documentary film series New American Noise at the Sundance London Film and Music Festival at The O2 on Friday, April 26, 2013. Leading independent directors, including Abteen Bagheri, Emily Kai Bock, Bob Harlow and Tyrone Lebon, created the six films that comprise New American Noise.  The series is produced by Nokia Music and SomeSuch & Co, and shines a light on the underground music scene in six American cities by detailing the incredible diversity of musical subcultures and giving an unprecedented insight into the lives and passions of today’s music and its fans.   The films premiered in the United States during the week of the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah, and the press hailed the series as “a must see” (USA Today) and “compelling” (SPIN).   For further information, updated clips and lists of artists included in the New American Noise film series please visit:  www.newamericanoise.com.

Gillian Anderson launches charity’s children’s competition

GillianPublicityShotAward-winning American actress Gillian Anderson has launched a national school’s competition to raise money for Children with Tumours.
Gillian, the star of critically-acclaimed drama series The X-Files, will judge the charity’s annual Christmas Card Challenge which is open to all primary schools.
Children with Tumours (CWT) is the UK’s first “no frills” charity which launched last year to help raise funds to provide holiday camps for children affected by the condition Neurofibromatosis and to contribute towards vital research.
More than 25,000 people in the UK are affected by NF and every day a baby is born with the condition. NF is more prevalent than Duchenne muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and Huntington’s Disease combined, but as yet there is no cure.
Gillian’s younger brother Aaron suffered from the rare condition and died from a brain tumour when he was aged only 30.

She said: ‘I’m honoured that CWT have asked me to judge the competition. I think it is such a good idea and I’m sure everyone who enters will have great fun designing their cards.”

The Christmas Card Challenge is open to children of primary school age and there will be six winners. Schools are encouraged to hold an internal competition to choose an individual, overall winner or two winners depending on age (8 and under, 9-11) and then submit them to the national competition.
As a prize, the winning individual will receive six packs of cards of their own design. Packs of all six winning designs will be available in the Autumn on the charity’s website www.childrenwithtumours.org
Schools are encouraged to choose their own theme but suggestions include: The Colour of Christmas, the Joy of Christmas, Christmas decorations and Through a Window. The finished cards will be printed in a 15cm x 15cm size so a square design is essential. Designs can be drawn, painted or computer graphically produced.
To register visit http://www.childrenwithtumours.org/Pages/ChristmasCardChallenge.aspx or for further enquiries email takepart@childrenwithtumours.org.The closing date for entries is 31st May.

Chris de Winter of CWT said: “We are delighted that Gillian is judging this year’s Christmas Card Challenge. All the money raised from the sale of the cards will be used to provide care and support to families with children with Neurofibromatosis.
“Building confidence and giving hope are our two key statements in making a difference to the lives of children with tumours. We aim to build confidence through social networking in the UK and overseas and giving hope to our children and families by funding the science that will make a difference to the lives of those affected.”

The Affordable Art Fair Returns To Battersea

katemossKate Moss, Watercolours on paper, 53x38cm by Cate Parr

£1,950 at SD Gallery

The Affordable Art Fair returns to the Battersea Evolution building in Battersea Park from 7 – 10 March, and they are giving people a chance to Sleep Now, Buy Later…

– Art lovers given chance to sleep on decision before purchase –

In a consumer shopping first, one lucky visitor to the Affordable Art Fair this month will be given the opportunity to ‘sleep with’ their prospective art purchase in order to make a fresh and considered decision after a good night’s rest.

Fair organisers hope to put more first time buyers at ease with the one off concept which will be trialled with a single lucky winner at the Battersea Park event. The idea came as a result of research* which found that nearly half (47 per cent) of people found it helpful to sleep on a decision when making a purchase for the home.

Over half of Brits (51 per cent) admitted to taking up to 24 hours to make a decision when buying a piece of art.

The public can enter to win the chance to ‘sleep before they buy’ by tweeting the hashtag #sleeponit by no later than midday on Wednesday 6 March.

The lucky winner will be notified on Thursday 7 March and invited to attend the fair on the day of their choosing, select their prospective piece of art to sleep with for the night to allow them some time to relax and consider their chosen work.

To announce the initiative, the Affordable Art Fair has created an original image, inspired by a famous installation shown at the Tate, to demonstrate what the winner will experience.

Nicky Wheeler, Fair Director of the Affordable Art Fair Battersea said “We’ve had so many comments from visitors over the years who have found a piece of art they like but are reluctant to make such an important decision on the spot. Often customers fall in love with a piece at first sight but sometimes thinking time can help in making the right decision – one person will be given this chance at the Affordable Art Fair next week.”

The Affordable Art Fair is the UK’s friendliest and most welcoming art fair, well-loved for its informal and un-stuffy atmosphere. With over 100 galleries exhibiting art priced from £40 – £4,000, the fair runs at the Battersea Evolution building in Battersea Park from 7 – 10 March.
