BECOME A CHANNEL 4 BATTLEFRONT PRESENTER!

Channel 4’s Battlefront is on the hunt for a new presenter for it’s webshow on Battlefront.co.uk. As one of Battlefront’s two hosts, alongside last year’s winner, Mawaan, the winner will broadcast the latest news about Battlefront campaigns and events to thousands of online viewers, as well as interviewing celebs about world-changing issues and encouraging viewers to get involved.

So far this year, Battlefront web-vids have featured the likes of Rizzle Kicks, Jason Derulo and Gok Wan, alongside campaign highlights and behind-the-scenes events action. It’s a fantastic opportunity for aspiring presenters who want to make a difference.

To enter, prospective presenters need to make a video of themselves talking about one of this year’s Battlefront campaigns. The winner will be able to sum up the campaign clearly and explain about why they decided to talk about it.

Once the video has been uploaded it will be in the hands of the public who will vote for their favourite. The 10 videos with the most votes will then be presented to our panel of expert judges (from Channel 4, Raw TV and a special guest!) who will decide on a final shortlist of five entries. Entries will be judged on passion, delivery, talent, charisma and how inspirational you are likely to be to young people. The five contestants which best fulfil this criteria will make it to the final stage.

The finalists will be invited to attend a presenter workshop in London on WEDNESDAY 26TH OCTOBER where they will be put through their paces in a number of on-camera tests and challenges designed to show your skills as a potential face of Battlefront.

The competition is open until 12pm on MONDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2011. BUT the sooner contestants enter, the more time their entry will have to notch-up votes! Voting closes at 12pm on THURSDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2011. Visit www.battlefont.co.uk for more details on how to enter and upload your video.

Our Family Wedding Review & Competition.

Frost is doing a competition to win one of three copies of wedding comedy Our Family Wedding, starring America Ferrara and Forest Whittaker. All you have to do is go to the homepage and subscribe.

Our Family Wedding is very funny, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the cover and didn’t know anything about it. However, I am a huge fan of Forest Whittaker and America Ferrara. I wasn’t disappointed in the film. It is a well scripted, well acted movie built around a funny premise. I laughed all the way through the not PC at all film. With all of the weddings happening at the moment (Kate’s Moss and Middleton to name just two) makes it also timely.

Check out the trailer below.

Royal Wedding Playlist; The Songs For Kate and William.

Frost and MUZU’s music video experts have been busy researching William and Kate facts and debating song choices in order to come up with the ultimate street party playlist for the royal wedding on Friday.

We have selected songs that will most resonate with William and Kate, and which may even be among special requests given to Guy Pelly, Prince Harry’s close friend, who will be DJ-ing at the reception.

http://www.muzu.tv/wedding/. There is also a competition to win a £100 gig voucher. We’re inviting people to watch our first dance playlist and vote for the song they think will be Will and Kate’s first dance http://www.muzu.tv/wedding/1st-dance?channelId=818636).

Here’s our MUZU.TV royal wedding street party playlist:

1. Adele – Make You Feel My Love

This song was originally written by Bob Dylan, who has an honorary degree from St Andrews University, where William and Kate met – at breakfast. Adele made the song famous again with her debut album ‘19’.

ADELE – Make You Feel My Love

2. Paul McCartney – Dance Tonight [Video ID 215641]

It’s widely reported that William and Kate have asked Macca to sing some Beatles classics at their wedding. Sir Paul does have a tradition of performing for royalty and was a highlight of the televised concert to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. There’s another connection: cakes. Fiona Cairns, who is making the royal wedding cake, also supplies Paul McCartney with a Christmas cake every year.

Paul McCartney – Dance Tonight

3. Abba – Dancing Queen

The team wanted to include at least one Abba song for Kate who loves the 80s Swedish band. She also looks a little bit like the young Frida Lyngstad (one of the two girls that made up the band).

Abba – Dancing Queen

4. Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling [Video ID 482065]

The Black Eyed Peas performed at the 2007 Diana Tribute Concert and it’s rumoured that they’re invited on Friday. Looking at their schedule they certainly don’t have any live performances booked…

Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling

5. Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life [Video ID 54057]

…as featured in the classic 1987s films, Dirty Dancing, starring Patrick Swayze. William loves 80s dance music and the couple have been snapped smooching on dance floors in the past… perhaps he plans to surprise his bride-to-be with his own version of ‘the lift’ on Friday?

Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life

6. Dancing in the Street – David Bowie / Mick Jagger [Video ID 34355]

The British public voted this as their number on street party song for the Royal Wedding, according to a PRS for MUSIC. Also Mick Jagger serenaded William and Kate and a crowd of people at a party to celebrate the famous Basil’s Bar on the privately owned island of Mustique in 2008. Flamboyant owner Charles Basil is said to have been invited to the wedding.

David Bowie & Mick Jagger – Dancing In The Street

7. Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire

The band met Harry backstage when they played London’s O2 last December and drummer Nathan Followhill thrashed him at table tennis that same night. Nathan has since said he’d be delighted to play for either brother’s weddings. We’re not sure he made it onto the guest list for Friday though.

Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire

8. Elton John – Candle in the Wind [Video ID 236869]

Three reasons for picking this song. First, Sir Elton John is a solid friend of the princes, and has been invited the wedding. Second, the song is closely associated with Princess Diana after he sung it at her funeral in 1997, also in Westminster Abbey (the single went on to sell more 33 million copies worldwide, and is the best selling single in history…) And third, it was voted top choice for the couple’s first dance by the British public according to PRS for MUSIC.

Elton John – Candle In The Wind

9. George Michael – Faith

George was a close friend or Princess Diana’s but we’re told he didn’t get an invitation to the wedding. He has however recorded a cover of Stevie Wonder’s romantic 1972 track ‘You And I’ for the couple as a wedding gift! It has reportedly been given the royal seal approval from the Palace. The team chose the 80s classic Faith, in tribute to Williams love of 80s music – we’re sorry we didn’t have more space for Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, Wham…

George Michael – Faith

10. Katy Perry – Firework

A great celebration track. Katy Perry says she plans to gatecrash the wedding, with Russell Brand dressed up as the Queen. We’re not sure they have our blessing…

Katy Perry – Firework

11. Marili Harwood – Billy William & Kate’s Royal Wedding

The 36-year old singer made history this month when she became the first woman to secure a maternity clause in her contract with a record label – in her case, Island records. She won’t work more than 20 hours a week in the second trimester of her pregnancy and can stop work on 1 July (her baby is due in August).

Marli Harwood – Billy (William & Kate’s Royal Wedding)

12. James Blunt – Stay the Night

James Blunt is taking a day off from his North American tour to be at Westminster Abbey April 29. Blunt and Will both served in the British army’s Household Cavalry, though not at the same time. Instead of the obvious ‘You’re Beautiful’ we chose one of Blunt’s new songs. The lyrics are pretty appropriate for the end of reception: “I hope you stay the night, the morning on its way, our friends all say good bye there’s no where else to go, I hope you stay the night…” We reckon she probably will, Will.

Innocent launch a film making competition

On a rainy Saturday morning in February, the Frost Editors went to Innocent HQ (aka Fruit Towers) to take part in a workshop held to launch Innocent Smoothie’s Mini Movie Competition. Kind of like the most pleasant post apocalyptic scene I can imagine, we were greeted by a lush gate of green grass and vans also covered in grass. In side was more grass, picnic tables, bean bags, unusual random objects, some very tiny fences and lots of smiley happy people. As soon as I was through the door I was inundated with beverages both hot and cold.

Listening to a presentation at Fruit Towers

Inspiring this competition was Innocent’s recently made TV advert. Their Superhero ad differs from everything else on the TV at the moment as theirs is Lo-Fi. Using absolutely no CG and embracing the ‘I can see the strings’ mentality the ad was typical of the Lo-Fi style of Ben Wheatley (the ad’s creator) who gave us a presentation on film making.

.

After letting us into the little secrets of the advertising industry we were given lunch in picnic hampers! Apart from the crumbs, there was one thing one everyone’s mouths…how can THEY get a job at fruit towers?! We then were split into groups and given Mini Movie Making kits, containing a bottle, a cape, stick, string, farmyard animals, tiny people and other random things presented in a show box and tied up with beautiful movie reel ribbon.

.

Mini Movie Making Kit

So there we were with our teams, a theme, camera equipment and the knowledge gathered in the morning’s presentation. We storyboarded away, filmed and created masterpieces. I can’t find our mini movies on the internet anywhere so you will just have to take our word for it. Everything we did had to be edited “in-camera”, meaning we couldn’t edit anything at all on the computer afterwards, this resulted in lots of giggles to the “cut”‘s and “action”‘s being left in.

.

The Innocent Mini Movie competition is now open and you have until 17th April to submit your own lo-fi advert. The winner (voted for by the public) will receive £5000, tickets to the London Film Festival and your advert will be broadcast on national telly. There’s a lose brief, your mini movie must be no more than 30 seconds, contain no CG, music (although sound effects are allowed) no branding (other than innocent) and they must be submitted via

the Innocent You Tube Channel. To submit your entry you need to go here: http://www.youtube.com/innocentdrinksltd

Frost Magazine’s Writer of the Year 2010

It’s been an amazing three quarters of a year and we couldn’t have done it without the passion and hard work of the people that write for us. They each contribute something to Frost Magazine, not only articles but also their personality. The sheer variety of backgrounds, specialisms and styles made it incredibly difficult for us to judge who to award the title of ‘Frost Magazine’s Writer of the Year 2010’ to, however, after much ‘uhhm-ing and ahh-ing’ and analysing of stats we have come to a decision.

We chose the winner based on a combination of statistics and feedback from readers. Our writer of the year showed they had the uncanny ability to consistently pick winning stories. Of the ten most popular posts, four of them were written by our Writer of the Year. With a friendly and very informative writing style it’s clear why their articles are so popular.

So…drumroll please…the Frost Magazine Writer of the Year 2010 is….Junior Smart

Well done to Junior Smart from the entire Frost Team.
