iPhone 5c Review

Upon receiving the iPhone 5c I thought two things; it’s pretty and it’s, actually, just a phone. The second comment upset my mother and fiancee, who were fast to tell me that the iPhone is certainly not ‘just a phone’. So with such passion inspired by this little smartphone I decided to give it a fair chance. I love Apple products myself and the only non-Apple piece of tech I own is my phone. Which is a Blackberry (don’t laugh), it is awful and never works. In fact, by the end of this review if I haven’t convinced you to get an iPhone I have absolutely no problem with that, after all this is only a review, but please, for the love of god, do not get a Blackberry. I don’t know a single person who is happy with them.

So, to the iPhone 5c review.

It’s pretty and pink. It looks the part; cool, high-tech, slick, expensive. There is a lot of screen which I love. I have seen people watch movies on iPhones and you can do so and have a great viewer experience. It comes in bright colours (green, yellow, pink, blue, white) and is the lower cost version of the iPhone, a cheaper version of the iPhone 5s. This was the first time Apple released two versions of the iPhone at the same time. Not only is it gorgeous, but it is also not made with cheap plastic. It is made from steel-reinforced, machined polycarbonate, and then coated in a glossy finish. The craftsmanship, the colours, the design, is all stunning. Although the cheaper version it is not a cheap phone. It will cost less to make and Apple will get a high profit margin but that doesn’t come across in the phone. It also has a great 4-inch Retina Display screen.

It has a lot of features that the iPhone 5 had but comes with an improved front-facing camera and global LTE support. The minus with the iPhone 5c is that you are not getting a lot of new technology. It is a lot like the iPhone 5 when it comes to features, which means you are paying a lot of money for a phone without a lot of new features. You also don’t get the fingerprint scanner that the iPhone 5s has.

If you are not someone who needs the latest technology and features then the iPhone 5c is a really good buy. It is smaller than the iPhone 5, which was long and slim. It is chunkier too but I like the size and you still get a decent screen. It is certainly lovely to look at. It was hard to not feel happy when holding a hot pink iPhone. The ‘c’ could mean ‘colour’.

It comes with iOS 7 and runs smoothly. It has good battery life. Something that used to be a negative with iPhones, they needed charged half-way through the day if you were lucky. The iPhone 5c has a lot going for it, although I know a few people see it as an iPhone for poor people. In fact, there is no such thing. Poor people definitely cannot afford iPhones, but with the lack of new software on the iPhone 5c it is easy to see why some people see it as a lesser version. However, it’s not. It is a good phone in it’s own right and it is beautiful to look at. So just make your own mind up.

Just to up the style quote they come with a black leather case which is red suede inside and opens when you apply pressure. They are ‘hand-crafted in metal’, this metal includes acoustic steel, an ultra thin metal, titanium and 24k gold. They are high quality as you would expect, well made and just sigh-worthy.

They come with a microphone and have a button for answering calls. The earphones have removable metal hooks which turns them into fitness earphones, very handy and you do not even notice them as they are so comfortable. The earhooks also come with black sleeves, a flight adapter and mini jack.

Now to the audio: it is just perfect. Everything works in harmony and every genre of music sounds magnificent. The rich, creamy bass is first class. These gorgeous and pretty much perfect earphones, their only negative for some people is that they are not compatible on a PC or ordinary MP3 player, are a must if you have the extra cash for beautiful, high-quality earphones with impeccable sound. iPhone 5S Launched – First Look Specifications

Apple has just launched two new phones. The more expensive and faster 5S and the new cheaper plastic 5C. Here are the first look specifications for the 5S (5C coming soon).

The iPhone 5S will come in new colours; silver, space grey and gold

8 Mega Pixel Camera

Apple claims to have made big strides with the iPhone camera, despite deliberately not focusing on increasing the number of pixels. Apple claims that the bigger pixels take better pictures.

Tim Cook said ‘We think deeply about the experience we want to create’

It has a brand new sensor with an aperture of f/2.2. The sensor is also 15% larger which should help it to perform better in low light. Like the Samsung S4 the new iPhone camera now features a burst mode which takes up 10 shots per second. The video camera can now take slow motion video at 120fps in 720p.

Perhaps the biggest hardware feature of the camera is a new ‘True Tone’ dual LED flash. This should make a big difference to the cameras performance in low light. Until now the small bright flashes on all smartphone have always taken poor quality images. We’ll have to wait and see if Apples prove to be true.

Fingerprint Sensor

The fingerprint sensor has been integrated into the Apple home button. The sensor can apparently read your finger from any direction. It can be used to unlock the phone but also as an authentication when making a purchase from the app store. It has also been speculated that app developers will create new applications which will take advantage of the feature, although fingerprint data is encyrpted and will be stored inside the phone and won’t be to iCloud or Apple’s servers.

A7 Chip

Apple claims its new chip is the first 64bit chip in a smartphone. Apple claims the new chip will run much faster than previous phones, perhaps even twice as fast. It should be much better at playing more powerful games as Apple demonstrated. It has been fully optimised to run with iOS 7. Apple’s new operating system.

M7 Chip

The new M7 chip continuously measures motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass which should make it possible to develop a range of new apps, especially health and fitness apps which have become very popular recently. This technology may also point to a future Apple smartwatch.

Battery Life

Battery life is improved. It has 250 hours of standby, 10 hours of browsing on LTE, and 10 hours of talk on 3G. This might actually be the most useful of all the 5S’s features as many previous smartphones struggle to last for a day.

iOS 7

The new iPhone 5S will come with Apples brand new operating system iOS 7. Apple already showed off iOS 7 during the summer (It will be possible to download on the 18th September). iOS 7 is Apples biggest software overhaul for a long time. The user interface has been completely redesigned by Johnny Ive. The new operating system is packed with loads of new features. One of the biggest is Apples new radio service which will compete with Spotify and Pandora. Apple should hopefully improve on its heavily criticised map application. It will probably be the software optimised with the new hardware which will be the main reason to buy this phone.

Price

The iPhone 5S will start at $199 for the 16GB model on a two-year contract, 32GB at $299 and 64GB at $399.

Idea to iPhone: The Essential Guide To Creating Your First App For iPhone and iPad by Carla White talks you through building an app from idea to iPhone, iPad, iPad mini or iPod Touch. Chapter 1 kicks off with your app adventure. It lists the excuses you may have not to make an app and dismantles them. I immediately liked this book when I was flicking through it for the first time. It is 294 pages of hard to find knowledge that you would not get anywhere else. Well, maybe if you trawled the internet for days, but even then I am not sure.

The graphs and pictures are great. The book is easy to understand anyway, but they add to the information getting into your brain. I learned that making an app is not as hard as you think and nor is it as expensive.

The other great information in this book is on Apple. How to grab their attention and how to work with them. Carla goes through everything you need to know about working with Apple and how iTunes can help or hurt sales. For instance, did you know that Apple take a 30% cut? They also pay you once a month after a four-week delay. There is also a step-by-step guide on becoming an Apple developer. Each chapter ends with a handy table of key points.

Chapter 2 is Shaping Ideas into Apps People Want. An essential chapter as there is no point in making apps that no one wants. This brilliant chapter lets you know how to find your audience. It also tells you how to integrate your app with Facebook and which device will be right for you.

Another thing I liked about the book is the quotes doted throughout. Perfect for inspiration.

Teaching you about finding an audience and building an app is one thing but marketing is also paramount. This book also covers that. You don’t need to hire an expensive PR company (at least not at first) you just need some hard work and imagination. There is also a checklist on building a press kit and information on how people scan iTunes. Essential for marketing your app.

It also has tips on finding a great designer, or designing yourself. And also a lot of information on finding and working with a developer. Tech tips on Xcode are also incredibly useful.

Further tips on making a profit, keeping track of money and getting the press interested make this book essential for anyone who wants to create their own app and become successful.

‘APPY VALENTINE’S DAY

The Poetry App hits 100k downloads as Brits burst with love for romantic poems to recite on Valentine’s Day

 

Tech-loving Casanovas are searching for romance in the lines of poetry, with help from The Poetry App, to woo their loved ones this Valentine’s Day. The app has been receiving 900 downloads a day in the run up to February 14.

 

With February 14 a few hours away lines from W.H. Auden’s O Tell Me The Truth About Love, are proving the most popular with the app’s 100,000 users.

 

Great delivery really gets to the heart of poetry and tongue tied romantics can hear Auden’s famous poem read aloud on the app by actors Ralph Fiennes and Julian Glover.

 

Other popular romantic love lines on the app include ‘What is all this sweet work worth, If thou kiss me not?’ from Percy Bysshe Shelley’s Love’s Philosophy and ‘All that’s best of dark and bright, Meet in her aspect and her eyes’ from Lord Byron’s She Walks in Beauty. Along with a host of others, Brits can be sure to make sure ‘love’ is the word on everyone’s lips.

 

Actor Dan Stevens, who reads work by Kipling on the app, said: “I cannot think of a better way to fall in love with the majesty of poetry.”

Top Apple Products For Christmas

No 1: iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is slick and beautiful. Slimmer and faster than it’s predecessor. When it came out people queued around the block, and no wonder, it has a bigger 4 inch retina screen, faster wireless and a powerful A6 chip. In fact Time Magazine named it the best gadget of the year.  It is twice as fast as the old iPhone, and twice as beautiful. It is the best smartphone on the market by a significant margin. No 2: iPad

I love my iPad. In fact, I am writing this blog post on my iPad. It is intuitive and knows what I want before I even know. Everyone I know who has gotten an iPad has no idea how they lived without it.

 

 

No 3: iPad Mini

Like an iPad but smaller and more portable. If you want to join in the iPad fun but want something a bit cheaper and smaller, this is for you.

No 4: iMac

If you need a new computer, Apple’s new iMac is just perfect technology. This is Apple’s most advanced desktop ever, and it is incredibly thin, 5mm at the edge. It is 75% less reflection than the last model. I even saw a picture of someone in Starbucks with an iMac. Funny, but it also lets you know how light it is.

I usually have an iPod shuffle, but I lost mine (sob) and got an iPod Nano for my Christmas. While my brother has an iPod Touch. The iPod Nano also has an FM radio, a new design, and is smaller than a credit card. It also has a pedometer built in and the Bluetooth lets you connect to the headphones and the heart monitor. Sigh.
