We reviewed some amazing chocolate from Lily O’Brien’s. The Milk Chocolate Truffles were utterly divine and so chocolatey we were in heaven. Discover The Origins Of British Luxury

Take a walk with The Connaught and Fox & Squirrel on a specially curated tour of Mayfair

In collaboration with London guide, Fox & Squirrel, The Connaught is offering a series of walks tailored to explore and unveil the origins of British luxury in the early 17th century when Mayfair became a destination for luxury craftsmen. Accompanied by a Fox & Squirrel historian, during the two-hour walks, guests will delve into the archives of bespoke tailors, milliners and perfumers, meeting some of the capital’s most talented artisans.

Walks start at The Connaught at 4pm and take place on the first Tuesday of every month and cover royal endorsement at the archives and workshops of respected holders of the Royal Warrant (4 August), extravagant materials (8 September), contemporary crafts (6 October), bespoke (3 November) and service (8 December).

Each walk costs £125 and ends at The Connaught’s Coburg Bar with a cocktail specially created to resonate the theme of the walk.

In 2010, two women named Penelope and Jojo were living in London, searching for jobs to go to once they’d graduated with MAs in Cultural and Creative Industries from Kings College.

Taking inspiration from the Victorian Lady’s Guide Association (1880), a group offering employment prospects to educated middle class women, training them as guides and personal shoppers, Penelope and Jojo saw an opportunity, and Fox & Squirrel was born.

They started to map London’s cultural terrain, and within just a year of operation, Fox & Squirrel was awarded the prestigious title Best Guided Walks by The Guardian.

Fast-forward three years and Penelope is now running Fox & Squirrel solo. The company has expanded its repertoire to include walks focused on art, fashion, food, street photography, architecture and film. A Brixton-based food writer named Lindsay goes undercover for one of Penelope’s Brixton Food Walks, with the aim of reviewing it for the local press.

Feigning a lack of local area knowledge, Lindsay (badly) pretends to know anything about Brixton, until her cover is blown by one of the Chefs featured on the walk, and is forced to reveal her true identity. Despite being outed in this way, Lindsay is genuinely impressed with Fox & Squirrel’s local area knowledge, as well as the critical and social commentary the walk incites, and writes a very positive review.

Months later, Penelope is looking for a new food guide, and Lindsay joins the team in a comedic display of poacher-turned-gamekeeper, and the new dynamic duo is born.

Fox & Squirrel continues to thrive and grow. Walks remain the face of Fox & Squirrel, but also collaborate with established, prestigious brands such as The Connaught, Getty Images and The New Craftsman, as well as provide bespoke consulting services for private clients, Business Improvement Districts and PRs.

Michael Kors Launches Gold fragrance And Jewellery Collections

Michael Kors has announced the launch of its new Gold fragrance and jewellery collections.

The Gold Fragrance Collection comprises three scents each designed to reflect different guises of the luxury substance including white, rose and 24K.

The White Luminous Gold fragrance is a blend of pear, jasmine and amber; Rose Radiant Gold mixes spices, florals and musks; while 24K Brilliant Gold merges orange mandarin and florals with woody notes.

The Michael Kors Gold Fragrance Collection will launch on August 19 and is priced at £39 (30ml), £58 (50ml) and £79 (100ml).

The Gold Jewelry Collection is crafted from gold-tone, white gold-tone and rose gold-tone stainless steel in sculptural style. In addition to stackable bracelets and bangles, the collection also features chains and rings.

WOW Face Mask Review

I was initially going to do a funny Instagram picture of myself wearing this mask a la Suki Waterhouse. Upon putting the mask on vanity prevailed however. The mask comes in two separate pieces, one for your lower face and one for the top. Once it is on you look like a burns victim. It is not a good look but who cares? You are making yourself beautiful. My husband certainly didn’t. He didn’t even crack a joke.

I found the mask a little hard to put on. You also have to be careful is doesn’t slide of your face. I lay on the sofa smoothing it down. It feels nice and soothing. I watch Parks And Recreation on Amazon Prime while reading a book I am reviewing. So I am not very good at switching off and relaxing but I will be lying here for 40 minutes. I actually like the gel feeling of the mask and am sure I can feel it working away.

After 40 minutes of looking plain weird I take the mask off. I then give the result the ultimate test: I ask my husband if he can notice a difference in my skin. He says he can. I look ‘fresh’. Brilliant. The mummy look is worth it.

I did only use this mask once so I can’t say if it makes a long-lasting difference to skin with long term use, but I was impressed with the results I saw. I would like to try it again but at £99 it is slightly out of my budget.

A French Woman’s Guide to Dressing For the Party Season

In Paris we don’t have a big tradition of dressing up during the party season – it’s not that we’re humbugs exactly, of course we adore fashion, but you won’t find many groups of girls dolled up to the nines for the office Christmas party. I love the effort British girls make to look festive, it’s fun and celebratory, but there’s no denying that the showy ‘sparkles and sequins’ look year on year can get a bit tiresome.

Here are my thoughts on how you can inject a little Parisian ‘insouciance’ into your outfit to create a point of difference.

Minimal bling. As Coco Chanel, our unofficial French patron saint of minimalism famously said: “Before I leave the house, I always remove one piece of jewellery so I don’t look overdone”. A good amount of glitz seems only right at Christmas so at least one eye-catching piece of jewellery is a must, but ‘earrings and no necklace’ or vice versa is a good fashion mantra to follow.

Masculine tailoring. This is sure to make you stand out amongst the sea of sequins at the boss’s Christmas do. A crisp white shirt can look great tucked into a pair of tuxedo trousers or a bright silk vintage skirt. The more feminine you are, the more impact a masculine aesthetic can have. Keep it really feminine with bright red lips and a soft hairstyle.

A small chic clutch. An oversized Hermes bag can look smart while you’re out shopping but it isn’t right for the evening – you never want an accessory to overshadow an outfit. A small quilted Chanel-style bag on the shoulders or an envelope clutch will work with whatever style of party outfit you’re wearing.

Fashion Classics. The French may occasionally be criticised for being a bit too classic; we definitely don’t jump on new trends each season. I have a few classic little black dresses from different eras in the wardrobe I revive for parties, and love leopard print which is fun and timeless.

Experimental but muted. The French tend to favour blacks and navys for evening dresses rather than ‘look at me’ brights. We do however love to experiment with all shapes and styles, so if you’re wearing an evening maxi dress or jumpsuit then try keep it to a dark base colour and let your accessories or your sexy fur stole create a bit of added drama.
