How To Be Your Own Boss – Innocent Inspires Event

On the 24th July Frost went to an amazing event all about entrepreneurialism, as part of the Innocent Inspires series at Fruit Towers.

The entrepreneurs speaking at the event were Innocent co-founder Richard Reed, luxury jewellery brand Astley Clarke founder Bec Astley Clarke, creator of not-for profit computer charity, Raspberry Pi, Eben Upton, not on the high street.com founders Holly Tucker & Sophie Cornish and founder of global peace charity Peace One Day Jeremy Gilley.

We arrived and grabbed an Innocent mocktail from the Innocent van and then mingled. The talks were brilliant. A particular favourite was Jeremy Gilley who is the founder of Peace One Day, which is on the 21st of September. Keep it in mind and spread the word. If the world need anything it is an International day of peace.

Richard Reed was as concise, smart and inspirational as ever, Bec Astley Clarke started a business and had a baby at the same time, which actually makes her superwoman, Sophie Cornish gave great advice and Eben Upton was not only great, but we also had a good chat with him after and he told us that someone took his Raspberry Pi (which he throws into the crowd during his speech)  in Iceland, but because the country is so small he mentioned it to one of the organisers and got it back from a sheepish teenager who went to his hotel and apologised.

We had a great night and we learned a lot. During the break we had some great food from the Scandinavian Kitchen and we also took away a goody bag full of stuff made by people who used to work for Innocent. That is the great thing about Innocent; they are creative and great businesspeople, and they are also ethical and moral. You can’t ask for more. Head to an Innocent Inspires event soon.

Uma Thurman has proven herself to be one of the most versatile young actresses by playing a variety of compelling characters. Thurman was born in Boston and raised in Amherst, Massachusetts. At age fifteen she was discovered by two New York agents and at sixteen she transferred to the Professional Children’s School in New York City in order to pursue an acting career.
Thurman’s entrance into mainstream film really began after her role as the goddess Venus in Terry Gilliam’s fantasy THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN which brought her international attention. This striking and versatile actress went on to receive critical acclaim for her portrayal of a virginal 18th century convent girl, Cecile de Volanges, seduced by John Malkovich in Stephen Frears’ DANGEROUS LIASONS. The following year she starred opposite Fred Ward and Maria de Medeiros in Philip Kaufman’s HENRY & JUNE playing the neurotic and exotic bisexual spouse of Henry Miller.  She then played Daphne McBain; one of a trio of Dabney Coleman’s spoiled children in the comedy WHERE THE HEART IS, directed by John Boorman. In 1991, Thurman starred opposite Richard Gere and Kim Basinger as Diana, a conniving therapy patient in Phil Joanou’s thriller FINAL ANALYSIS. She then reunited with Malkovich in the thriller JENNIFER 8, playing Andy Garcia’s blind girlfriend, Helena. In MAD DOG AND GLORY, she played a barmaid who becomes an indentured servant to Robert De Niro for saving Bill Murray’s life. Her most eccentric movie to date is Gus Van Sant’s film, EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES, in which she played Sissy Hankshaw, a big-thumbed, bisexual hippie hitchhiker.
In 1996, Thurman received an Academy Award nomination for Quentin Tarantino’s critically lauded PULP FICTION, in which she played Mia Wallace, a sexy and comedic mobster’s wife. Later that year, she was seen in the period romance A MONTH BY THE LAKE, with Vanessa Redgrave and the contemporary romance BEAUTIFUL GIRLS directed by Ted Demme. Thurman next appeared in THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS, BATMAN & ROBIN, GATTACA, opposite Ethan Hawke, LES MISERABLES with Liam Neeson and THE AVENGERS.
Uma’s other works include Woody Allen’s SWEET AND LOWDOWN, opposite Sean Penn and Samantha Morton; VATEL, opposite Gerard Depardieu and Tim Roth; the Merchant/Ivory film THE GOLDEN BOWL, with Nick Nolte, Angelica Huston and Jeremy Northam; John Woo’s thriller PAYCHECK; and TAPE with Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard, for which she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award as Best Supporting Actress. Uma also starred and produced, the HBO film, HYSTERICAL BLINDNESS, and won 2003 Golden Globe for Best Actress for her portrayal of Debby Miller.
Quentin Tarantino’s installments KILL BILL: VOLUME 1 and KILL BILL: VOLUME 2, both of which she was nominated for a Golden Globe; MGM’s BE COOL opposite John Travolta, a sequel to the hit GET SHORTY; PRIME opposite Meryl Streep, THE PRODUCERS with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick; MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND, opposite Luke Wilson; MOTHERHOOD opposite Anthony Edwards and Minnie Driver; MY ZINC BED, an HBO film based on the play by David Hare; THE LIFE BEFORE HER EYES opposite Evan Rachel Wood;  Chris Columbus’ PERCY JACKSON & THE LIGHTNING THIEF in which she takes on the role of the mythical character “Medusa;” Lee Pace’s CEREMONY playing “Zoe” a woman in the middle of a love triangle, and Declan Donnellan’s BEL AMI playing opposite Robert Pattinson.
Most recently, Thurman earned her first Emmy Nomination in the category of  “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Dramatic Series” for her arc in NBC’s SMASH. Due out later this year Thurman will be seen in Lars von Trier’s NYMPHOMANIAC. Uma is currently attached to star as controversial Anita Bryant in the independent feature ANITA, which will be directed by Rob Epstein and Jeff Friedman.

We had lots of fun at the CLA Game Fair. We saw the UK’s only Zorse, Zulu, and also saw lots of horses, puppies, birds of prey and great shows. There was also lots of sun and great food and drink around. We also bumped into Gold Olympic medalist Peter Wilson, watched the RDA put on a great show and did some shopping.  If you were there let us know if you enjoyed yourself, we certainly did.

Made In Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh On Bullies & Escaping The Chelsea “Bubble”

In an exclusive interview with The Sun’s Fabulous magazine out Sunday July 28, Millie Mackintosh, 24, reveals that she is still haunted by the bullying she suffered throughout her teens: “I was bullied to the point where I wouldn’t go to school. I was skinny, had glasses and wore braces to realign my jaw. I had full-on yellow hair after a home dye job and had really bad acne all over my forehead.”Millie Mackintosh made in chelsea

Reality star Millie, who is currently planning her September wedding to rapper Professor Green, 29, says she’s much happier now she’s relocated east with her fiancé. And she gave her strongest indication yet that she won’t be returning for the next series of the hit E4 show.

She said: “I’m not going to create a drama just to be part of it…Chelsea is a bubble and not a healthy one. It’s that Gossip Girl environment and people just don’t grow out of it.”

Also in this week’s edition, you’ll find the results of the Fabulous Beauty Awards 2013. A whopping 95,746 readers voted for their beauty must-haves. For the fourth year in a row Cheryl Cole was crowned beauty icon and readers confessed to spending on average £25 a month on beauty products.

Fabulous magazine is available free in The Sun every Sunday.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Leave Hospital With Baby Prince

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have emerged from the Lindo Wing with their son. Both happy parents cradled their newborn son as they stood on the steps of St Margaret’s Hospital in-keeping with tradition. Kate looked radiant and happy in a cornflower blue dress by Jenny Packham.

William said: “He’s got a good pair of lungs on him that’s for sure. He’s quite heavy. We’re still working on a name.’ He also spoke about the wait for the birth, “I will remind him of his tardiness when he’s older as I know how long you lot have been out here.” He also complemented his wife’s looks, saying:”He’s got her looks that’s for sure!” and also joked that his son had more hair than him. Kate said that William had already changed his first nappy.

Made in Chelsea’s Andy Jordan and Louise Thompson attend charity surfing event in Cornwall

Surfing world stunned by Surf Challenge for Autism 2013

Fistral Beach in Newquay was brought to a standstill this weekend as a group of autistic surfers took to the water in the Wave Project’s Surf Challenge for autism 2013.

Top-level surfers including former UK champion Russell Winter and 2012 English national champion Hannah Harding were left speechless as they watched as 32 autistic competitors dazzle on the clean 3ft waves.

They were joined by around 1500 spectators who gathered in glorious sunshine at Britain’s most famous surfing beach to watch the display.

Pro surfer Hannah Harding commented: “People watching just couldn’t believe that these competitors had a disability. They were surfing to such a high standard, it was really great to watch!”

The event was funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and delivered almost entirely by volunteers. Around 70 people helped support the event, including celebrity couple Andy Jordan and Louise Thompson, from E4 show Made In Chelsea, and 16 serving Royal Navy officers and junior ratings from RNAS Culdrose.

The judges, the contest director and all the paid competition staff waived their fees, while Fistral Surf Hire Company gave out wetsuits free of charge. The event was also supported by Newquay Surf Lifesaving Club, which offered free use of its club house and surf boards.

Contest organiser Joe Taylor said: “It was just amazing that so many people came to help support this event to ensure that these young people with autism had their chance to shine. It was wonderful to see so much goodwill from local people, organisations and businesses.”

The contest was a truly international event, with competitors coming from Wales and even the Netherlands to take part alongside surfers from the UK. The overall winner of the contest was 13-year old Thomas Koppelaars, from Zaltbommel, in the Netherlands.

Speaking on his behalf, his mother Marjolijn Koppelaars said: “We’re just so delighted. This has been the best experience of his life.”

Second place went to 18-year old Robert Parton, from Swansea. The other two finalists were last year’s winner Robbie Turner, 16, from St Just and Joe Scammell, 10, from Liskeard in Cornwall.

Wave Project director Terry Stanton said: “This event shows just how relevant surfing is to disability sport. We really want to take the Surf Challenge forward now and make it even bigger and better next year.”

Big Lottery Fund’s Helen Bullough said: “Events like this are so important, not only in creating opportunities for people with disabilities, but also in challenging people’s perceptions of disability and what’s possible.

“It is wonderful that so many spectators came out to enjoy the event and make it such a success. Congratulations and thanks to all involved.”
