Lily Allen Makes A Comeback And We Love It
While Lily Allen’s new music video Hard Out Here has drawn some criticism I love it. It is cheeky and it has drawn debate. It starts of with Lily having liposuction while her manager and the surgeons wonder how ‘anyone can let themselves get like these’. ‘I’ve had two babies’, she responds.
Lily had to deny claims the video was racist and said she just hired the best dancers.
She said the video, “has nothing to do with race, at all, is meant to be a lighthearted satirical video that deals with objectification of women within modern pop culture … The message is clear.”
She also said said she didn’t request “specific ethnicities” for her dancers; simply hiring the “the best dancers” from the auditions. “I would not only be surprised but deeply saddened if I thought anyone came away from that video feeling taken advantage of, or compromised in any way,” Allen’s “insecurities” stopped her twerking alongside them in her underwear “I actually rehearsed for two weeks trying to perfect my twerk, but failed miserably,” she said. “if I was a little braver, I would have been wearing a bikini too, but I do not and I have chronic cellulite, which nobody wants to see.”
All of Allen’s dancers – Seliza Sebastian, Melissa Freire, Shala EuroAsia, Monique Lawrence, and Temple – stood by Lily and the video, posting links to it and retweeting Allen’s remarks. “Critics will be critics,” Men have been exploiting women in the stereotype Lily sends up in her video for decades. Is she not aloud to point it out because she is of another race?
She also send up Robin Thicke and his rapey ‘Blurred Lines’ video by replacing the ‘Robin Thicke has a big d**k” (more like is) scene with “Lily Allen Has a Baggy Pussy”. It’s rude but amusing.
Lily Allen has gotten a lot of stick, and numerous people are pointing out that her comeback after four years away from music coincides with her vintage store she had with her sister, Lucy in Disguise, going broke, but we need more Lily Allen’s. Not because she is perfect- she sings about women being objectified but has posed topless for GQ– but because she has an opinion, isn’t afraid to share it and proudly calls herself a feminist- something that not all celebrities are brave enough to do. She may not be everyone’s idea of a role model but it is sexist that every women in the public eye has her every move questioned, and is always supposed to be a role model. Men are never held up to the same lofty heights. We need more of her because Lily Allen is a happily married mother-of-two. She works hard and goes for what she wants. Some people call her mouthy but that is only because she is a women, if she was a man she would just have an opinion. Go Lily, we love you.

Victoria Secrets’ Tanning Secrets Uncovered
Always wanted luscious legs worthy of the Victoria Secrets catwalk? Well now you can, with the simple and inexpensive solution of self-tanning. But how does one apply such stuff without running the risk of resembling streaky bacon? Beauty & tanning expert, media personality and Cocoa Brown founder Marissa Carter solves your self-tanning dilemmas.
Q: When should I wax or shave the hairs on my body if I am planning on self-tanning?
A: Wax your hairs two days before tanning. If you wax the day before tanning, there may still be remnants of wax on your skin that the tan will cling to. You can shave your hairs the day before you apply tan. I don’t recommend shaving on the same day that you’re going to apply tan because tan tends to get into the pores after shaving which can end up looking like blackheads in your skin.
Q: How often do I need to exfoliate and moisturise my skin before I apply a self-tanning product?
A: I recommend lightly exfoliating in the shower with scrub gloves and shower gel every day or at least every day for the three days leading up to your tan application. Moisturise your body twice a day if you can. I recommend using a body oil at night when skin is most absorbent and an oil free moisturiser during the day.
Q: What should I do to prepare my skin on the day I am going to self-tan?
A: Shower using shower gel (not an exfoliator) about half an hour before applying tan. This ensures skin is clean and free from any oils, lotions, potions or perfumes that have the potential to act as a barrier between your skin and the active ingredients in the tan that need to get into your skin for your tan to develop. They can also cause the tan to go streaky or patchy so it’s very important that is clean before you apply tan.
Apply an oil-free moisturiser to dry areas such as hands, feet, knees and ankles so that the tan doesn’t go too dark. The moisturiser must be oil free because if it contains oil, the oil will prevent the tan from developing and you could end up with pale patches!
A small amount of petroleum jelly through your eyebrows will stop the tan from clinging to your hairs, ensuring you don’t end up with tell-tale stained brows.
If you have dark circles around your eyes and you apply tan over the circles, they will appear darker and more obvious so avoid this by applying petroleum jelly to the area which will act as a barrier.
Nail varnish on your finger and toe nails before you get sprayed is a good idea because it prevents the tan from staining your nails.
If you have light coloured hair, I recommend wearing a mop cap or wrapping a towel around your head so the spray tan doesn’t get onto your hair and become temporarily discoloured.
Q: What should I do after tanning?
A: Your beauty therapist will tell you how long you need to wait for your tan to develop before rinsing it off but in the meantime, wear loose dark clothes so the tan doesn’t rub off too much on your clothes and your clothes don’t rub too much of the tan off your skin too!
Don’t wash your hair in the shower when you are showering for the first time after tanning. You could end up over-exfoliating the tan off as shampoos can be quite strong and might strip your tan.
Q: How do I maintain a beautiful tan all week long?
A: Gradually exfoliate your skin daily so that the tan wears off evenly. Use an oil-free moisturiser twice daily. I recommend using coconut oil at night on your skin if you want to start removing your tan. It generally takes three nights of using coconut oil and three days of exfoliating to remove all remnants of tan.

Ringo Starr Releases New Limited Edition Book ‘Photograph’
Legendary Beatle Ringo Starr’s highly anticipated limited edition book Photograph. Earlier this year Ringo delighted fans by announcing he would be opening his archive to share a lifetime of photography. Now this stunning book explores that archive in full.
In over 15,000 words of brand new text, Ringo tells us the stories behind more than 240 pictures. Each copy of Photograph is traditionally hand-bound, numbered, then signed by the author.
‘I love putting pictures together to show different times of my life. I was just taking shots because I liked to take shots, and now it’s turned into this, which is great. Peace & love.’ – Ringo Starr
Ringo Starr shares his life story in a memoir illustrated with 300+ pages of stunning photography that has remained unseen for decades. Ringo tells first-hand what it was like growing up in Liverpool, discusses his time as a Beatle, and much more. Photograph includes childhood photos and memorabilia saved by his mother (that even Ringo didn’t know existed until now) and forgotten slides of The Beatles in Miami (that barely survived). Told in hundreds of photographs snapped all over the world, from Paris to Washington, India to Japan, Photograph is Ringo’s personal account of his life and work.
‘We made some incredible music. The songs are still relevant; the kids are listening to the music today. It worked. And there were many, many magic moments, when it really worked.’ – Ringo Starr
‘These are shots that no one else could have. I just had the camera with me a lot of the time.’ – Ringo Starr
Ringo’s unique position and artistic flair has produced beautiful and intimate portraits of The Beatles, capturing sides of John, George and Paul that only a band mate would see – writing songs, having fun and lost in moments of quiet reflection.
‘This is how we saw most of the world when it got big for The Beatles: out of a car window, going to or leaving somewhere. That’s just how it was.’ – Ringo Starr
Coming November 22, 2013
Ringo’s Photograph launches this autumn, with special events hosted in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Readers can find out more, and order now, at RingoPhotoBook.com. The book will be priced £345.
