Bio Oil Review

biooil

Bio Oil is hugely popular amongst pregnant women, new mothers and people with scars to the point that it is ubiquitous. But does it really work? We tried it to find out.

Our tester put it on an existing stretch mark twice a day as instructed. She did notice a visible improvement after a few months. The stretch mark was very purple when she started and it was fading more as time went on. Of course stretchmarks tend to fade anyway but it take years for them to go from the red/purple angry scars to the silvery/white tiger stripes. Bio Oil does speed the process along. Boots.com frequently do a buy two get one three deal so you can also save yourself some pennies.

Have you used Bio Oil? Did it work for you? Would you recommend it to a friend?

MitoQ Moisturising Anti-Ageing Serum Review

mitoqreviewEveryone keeps telling me that I have good skin recently. This is why: MitoQ Anti-aging Serum. MitoQ is 1,000 times more powerful than any other antioxidants in an anti-ageing topical cream or serum. It makes your skin look healthy, like you have just had a good workout. It gives a great post-workout glow without the exercise. I use MitoQ Anti-aging Serum for 10 weeks, until the bottle runs out. My skin isn’t perfect now. There are still pores that I think are too big and I am sure fine lines are developing BUT my skin has improved. Some of my pores are definitely smaller, I look healthier. My skin does look younger.

It is a serum so you can use it with a moisturiser or any other product, like sun block. It has the consistency of a lotion and sinks in well. My skin does feel quite dry when I use it on its own. It has a hypoallergenic fragrance free base so it shouldn’t irritate. It is pricey at £75 and a bottle lasts between 8-10 weeks. Would I buy it again? I would. It does make a visible difference to skin, leaving it brighter and looking healthier. It is expensive but if you can afford it or save for it, it is worth the money. It really does make skin glow.

MitoQ Anti-aging Serum supports healthy skin cell function. It protects cells from the increasing oxidative stress associated with age and returns skin cells to optimal function. MitoQ supports youthful collagen and elastin production – the key building blocks of healthy skin.

Caudalie Contouring Concentrate Review

caudalie

My first thought of Caudalie Contouring Concentrate is that it smells of ginger. My nose is off however, it’s lemongrass. We got sent Caudalie Contouring Concentrate to review for our pregnancy section, we want to review products that stop, reduce or get rid of stretch marks. The packaging says that this preservative-free 100% plant-based dry body oil firms and smooths skin. It also gives it a slight sheen. Apparently, it can take 1.5 inches off your thighs if you follow the contouring regime.

This 100-percent natural body treatment promotes natural drainage. It doesn’t have any of the following:

– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What it does have:

-Grape Seed Oil: Moisturizing.
-Essential Oils of Juniper Berries, Geranium, and Rosemary: Toning.
-Essential Oil of Lemon and Lemongrass: Draining.
-Essential Oil of Cypress: Stimulates Circulation.

Caudalie Contouring Concentrate is impressive. It leaves skin looking better and firmer. There is a definite difference in the skins appearance. It also smells great. While we can’t say that you will lose inches, your skin will look more toned and even. It is also a 100% natural product so nothing toxic is going into the skin. That combined with the visible difference it makes to the skin makes this body oil impressive indeed.

You can buy Caudalie Contouring Concentrate from Selfridges.com

King Lear William Shakespeare Théâtre de Nesle Review – Paris

King Lear William Shakespeare Théâtre de Nesle Review – ParisHow do you put Shakespeare’s King Lear on a stage the size of a postage stamp with 6 actors (3m,3f) running 90 minutes?

The answer is – carefully.

This is a very careful production with everything timed meticulously.  The 6 actors obviously play many parts each and the changes of costume/character are carefully thought through and executed with a seamless precision; one actor walking past another who is ready to hand the scarf and take the jacket that indicates the character change (for example).  The staging is organised and choreographed to the centimetre and the use of the sparse décor (rostra particularly) highly effective.

The text has been cut intelligently and some of the subplots sacrificed to bring the running time to the 90 minutes that the theatre demands.

What the production lacks is a certain passion and a rhythm.  The poetry of the verse has been sacrificed in the interests of clarity – creating a rather controlled and intellectual production.  But then this is a question of personal taste when it comes to Shakespeare and I prefer passion.  The intricacies of the plots and the machinations of Goneril and Regan – not to mention Edmund – are abundantly clear and easy to follow; the surtitles enabling those whose English is not “native” to keep up to speed.

On the whole a huge “bravo” to the entire team and a production well worth watching if you are in Paris soon.

Imitation Game Film Review

iimitationgameCast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Charles Dance, Mark Strong

I was very excited about seeing this film. The cracking of the enigma code is one of Britain’s greatest accomplishments, saving millions of lives and ending a war. Alan Turing is one of the most underrated and greatest Britons that ever lived. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Cumberbatch does an excellent job of portraying the man who essentially invented the computer. He could have just done another Sherlock-type performance but his performance is astounding, believable and as good as expected from an actor who is fast becoming one of our true greats. It is just subtle enough. The script is great, the entire film just works very well. Strong performances are given from the rest of the cast too and Keira Knightley’s performance gives Joan Clarke, a woman who did great work and contributed to history when too many were never given the chance, the credit she deserves.

Whilst I watched this film, myself and the rest of the audience were engaged and laughed many times. But the overwhelming feeling at the end was of injustice. The injustice of homosexuality ever being illegal, the injustice of one of our greatest, who helped stop a war and saved tens of millions of lives. is hard to take. Forced to take pills that chemically castrated him. Turing ended his life when he was only 41 after being forced to take these pills or face prison. His ‘crime’ was his sexuality and being caught with a young man. No one helped him or stopped the appalling behaviour. It wasn’t until 2013 that he was posthumously pardoned by Queen Elizabeth II. This film is a must watch. It tells an essential part of our history, but it also says far too much about the brutality of injustice and hate.

Based on the real life story of Alan Turing, who is credited with cracking the German Enigma code, the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment, but his work and legacy live on.

The Imitation Game is out now.
