Women turn on their heels this season

– image001         Two thirds of women ditch heels and join SJP in a flats revolution –

According to a recent poll of SecretSales.com members, two thirds (62 per cent) of women are planning to ditch their heels for a more comfortable flat shoe this season.

With recent news revealing Sarah Jessica Parker and Victoria Beckham have developed long-term foot damage due to wearing high heels, wise women are deciding to mix up their wardrobe and leave the old adage ‘beauty is pain’ behind them.

Despite continuous health warnings, there are some stylish women who just cannot bear to be parted from their beloved stilettos; with a quarter (27 per cent) saying they would not feel confident wearing flats every day.

For those women thinking of mixing up their flats to heels ratio, Chelsea boots, as sported recently by Victoria Beckham, or glamorous pumps, worn by Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller, are a must for this season.

Ballet pumps were the staple flat shoe for British women, followed by Chelsea boots in second. The least popular flat footwear of choice were moon boots, with one in five (19 per cent) fashionistas saying they would not be caught dead in a pair.

Helen Kaye, Head of Editorial at SecretSales.com says “Flats can be a great addition to a cute skirt or skinny jeans. They are essential in any wardrobe and can make an outfit look more relaxed and playful. Swapping the heels on occasion can help save your feet and add some fun back to your style and wardrobe!”

To rock the stylish flats look for less, SecretSales.com is offering a 60 per cent discount on Missoni flats from Wednesday 20th March. Members of the site will be able to snap up the £163 shoes for £99.

Cool Casual Shoes

It can be really hard to find a fashionable casual option for shoes, but Frost thinks that Nike Blazer are both cool and comfortable. They can be worn with anything, from jeans to a suit. You could even do a Lily Allen and wear them with a dress. The options are endless and they are much better for your feet than high heels. So give them a break and splash out.

They come in different sizes – such as hi, medium or low. I quite like the hi-tops, material and colour. A great alternative to the Converse that you see everywhere. Much more original.

High Heels Ice Traction Slip Ons | Cool Things

High Heels Ice Traction Slip Ons are a brilliant idea. One of the worst things about snow and ice is having to change your wardrobe accordingly. Sometimes you just want to dress up. Especially if you are going out or wearing a dress. So I tried out these ground-gripping steel-studded slip ons, and they really worked. There was no slipping or sliding. They also come with a convenient pouch.

They fit over pretty much all of my shoes and boots too. A brilliant idea to help you stay stylish.

If you’re the type of woman who wears heels come rain or shine (or snow), then these traction slip-ons will keep you firmly standing and not slipping and sliding down the pavement. Ground-gripping steel studs improve stability on ice. Slip-on design fits over most high heel shoes and boots. Grip-strip closure ensures a perfect fit. Storage pouch included. One size fits most shoes or boots.

DISPAIR London and Depaul UK unite to create limited edition product with a difference.

Innovative men’s footwear brand DISPAIR London has embarked on an exciting new collaboration
with Depaul UK, the largest national youth homelessness charity in the UK, to offer the opportunity
for one young person to be a guest designer of a limited edition DISPAIR London shoe.

A competition to submit design ideas was opened to the young people helped by Depaul UK with
100% of profits from the winning design going directly to Depaul UK.

With inspiration originating from the laid back streets of Spitalfields, DISPAIR London fully endorses
individualism, and is ideal for those who don’t feel the desire to conform, who are comfortable to lead
their own way in fashion.

Depaul UK helps young people who are homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged, and has helped
over 50,000 people since it was founded in 1989. While Depaul UK offers an immediate solution to
homelessness, Depaul UK protects young people who have become homeless, helps them to
progress beyond homelessness with training and employment schemes, and works with families to
prevent youth homelessness from happening in the first place.

The design competition proved to be hugely popular with well over the expected number of entrants.
The winner was chosen, a former resident of Depaul UK’s Simonside supported Newcastle
accommodation, with the design being put onto DISPAIR London’s most popular style, the
Winston, a loafer shoe with monk strap detailing.

DISPAIR London has since worked closely with Depaul UK and the competition winner on every
step of the process, offering the young person work experience in the fashion footwear industry and
being fully involved in the design process along the way.

The shoe will be part of DISPAIR London’s AW12 collection, available in navy, grey, off-white and
black. Hitting Topman stores in time for Christmas.

God Save My Shoes | Film Review

Women love shoes. Not all women, but enough to make the shoe industry in the US worth 40 billion dollars. 60% of which is solely from women. Vogue did a survey of it’s readers and found that they spent $9,000 a year on shoes. $9,000!! Even during the recession women never stopped buying shoes. They still bought expensive designer shoes; just less of them. At around $400 a pop.

This American documentary is incredibly good. Even for those who are not obsessed with shoes . The history is fascinating. Did you know that stiletto means “slender dagger” in Latin? This documentary was three years in the works and it is an impressive achievement.

It has an all-star cast, Kelly Rowland, Dita Von Teese, Manolo Blahnik, Stacey Ferguson, Christian Louboutin to name just a few. The relationship between sex and shoes is explored, as is feminism and the pain of wearing heels. One (obviously male) designer states that women like a little bit of pain when they wear high heels. He is wrong, he should just make more of an effort to make them more comfortable.

This is a good documentary. Worth a watch for men and women alike. A massive accomplishment. Also, with every purchase of this DVD, Caid Productions will donate a pair of shoes to someone in need. Thumbs up all round.
